That's not the same. I'm talking about the fusion of identity politics with market economics and analytics as being a very online-NBA issue.

That's one of the things I'm looking forward to with Mac. He mentioned that after he settles in, he'll "throw a log on the fire" and tell some of the more memorable experiences he had selling cars. I'd rather listen to his non-sports stories (in moderation) than some fantasy football crap.

What is stupid about my argument? I didn't mention fighting racism anywhere. I simply provided the history of black sports radio hosts in this city, while missing Norm Van Lier as I believe he was before my time or at least I never heard him on air. This triggered you.

When you have to constantly alter your criteria to make a poorly defined point- we need more black voices- it's a stupid argument. Norm Van Lier, Jason Goff, Lawrence Holmes, Tommy Williams, Jonathan Hood, Norm Van Lier and Jerry Riles don't count because they were either on at the wrong time of day or did not get enough ratings to continue at your narrowly define time slots of between 6-6. Mind you that there are only 5 local shows on during this time, and some of the slots have been occupied by the original people for 25 years. Dan Jiggetts only sort of counts or something.

Then to compound how empty your point is you say buzzwords like triggered. Fighting "racism" was the clear intent of the original post.

The only thing I missed was Norm Van Lier but I made it clear in my first post that I may have been missing someone as I'm not a radio historian.
WaitingforRuffcorn wrote:

I personally didn't even make that argument. Now, I'm not going to say it's a bad thing but it was more about the reality of the situation.

Well, I'm not exactly going to cry if someone thinks you should "fight racism" but my post was more about the reality of how few chances and how short lived those chances have been for black Chicago sports radio hosts. Even if I think the original repost went too far it still is a valid point to bring up.

WFR, what was the comment about a black person becoming a comedian or President?

Didn't really see your angle there.

There's a lot to be said for the powers of your thoughts and beliefs. Goff was so focused on race that it affected his ability to do an entertaining show to which people would want to listen. He created his own artificial reality, he believed so strongly that whites have it in for blacks that he essentially got what he wanted - a white man firing him - now he can claim that he's right for thinking this way. With Goff's logic, he was right all along and has a pink slip to prove it.

This idea that racism is holding back black men from Chicago, which is the opening line of the original post. The most famous and successful people from the city in recent history have been black. I am highly suspicious when someone uses race as an example of why certain hosts were not successful on sports talk radio. Who is racist? Sports fans-then why are they watching sports? Station managers? They gave chances to several black men, but it hasn't worked out. While I cannot prove this was not a vast conspiracy, why even put then on the air in the first place if that's the case?

It's lazy echo chamber signaling when you say a black man lost his job. And we all know why, wink, wink.

What's the lie exactly? This has been your entire debating style in this thread. "You are triggered." "You are lying."

There have been many black voices on Chicago sports radio. I would say that limited time slots and a lack of term limits on hosts is by far the biggest factor in the ill-defined lack of black voices.

ESPN hasn't had a black male on a Chicago daypart [edited: brain cramp], but Bomani Jones did well enough on the national mothership to get a TV role. [Although John Skipper left and somehow Bomani and Pablo Torre's show is in limbo and nobody wants to admit that the new boss doesn't want it.]

I've said it here many times: Jason Goff thinks he is Bomani Jones, or at least deserves the same results. But,
1. He's not as smart [Jones has a masters and pursued a doctorate for a while from a serious university.]
2. He's not as cultured [Jason talking to Bomani about music would be a wipe-out.]
3. He's not as funny [The first time I heard Bomani he had just been let go in Raleigh and had started a morning show on a Canadian XM station. I almost pissed myself laughing and trying not to kill myself driving over the border crossing at Niagara Falls.]
4. He's not even close to as good as an interviewer.

And 5. he doesn't know anything besides the NBA.

good dolphin wrote:

I actually was going to reply to post that.

For all the kvetching, much of it justified, about men of color on Chicago sports radio, think about the TV side, and the legacy of families of color on the local TV landscape:

- Ponce
- Jiggetts
- Jordan (not MJJ, the venerable Robert Jordan of WGN who kicked ass every single weekend)
- now Payton

Respected names in the industry. Karen Jordan has been killing it for years. Lauren Jiggetts is eventually going to be the 9/10pm anchor at Channel 9, once she gets a little more experience and hits her 40s. [I think she's in her mid-30s given when Jiggs was a Bear.]

Now I suspect that the original "LA" quoted would say that these aren't real role models. Jiggs has a Caucasian wife, both Payton kids are married to Caucasians. Because LA is indignant, and at the core he's as racially prejudiced as some stereotypical cop from Beverly.

So what's my fucking long-winded point as a mid-50s white guy from the suburbs who can't possibly understand Jason's anger?

He had lots of potential role models in the industry. He decided to follow absolutely none of their examples. I doubt he ever picked up the phone and called any of them and asked if he could buy them lunch and pick their brains.

And now Jason's off the air. Maybe forever.

I'll go ahead and post this but it'll piss people off. I don't care right now.

Why doesn't this LA guy speak up for other minority groups?

Has a Mexican or Asian ever got a show on the score or chicago sports radio? Even as a producer? it seems it's just white and black guys. Why doesn't anyone stand up and bitch for those groups?
