What is your policy here? I never have. I mean, that is the point of me coming in right? The other day I was picking up Chinese and the guy in front of me left tip on the line for the receipt. Then when it was my turn, I thought the cashier gave me a bit of a stink eye for no tip..so what is the official ruling here?

No you dont tip on carry out.

Tipping has gotten way out of hand.

Usually not, unless they offer a free drink while I'm waiting.

Yeah, I draw a line right through that... maybe I would if they did something for me, like I ordered and had a 30 min delay on getting to the place for some reason and they kept it warm for me, but meh. I will say I usuallly do throw in a tip for carry out sushi, but I don't know specifically why I feel that is different than regular food.

Very rarely. I do at a small pizza place I go from time to time as the owner helps me out with stuff. But it’s maybe 10-15% time.

Never. A line right through "Tip" everytime.

Honestly, go fuck yourself, will ya? You want a tip from me coming in to pick it up myself? Really? Who the fuck am I even tipping? The guy/girl who hands me the food? Blow me. You get nothing.

P.S. im a great delivery tipper. Especially if weather conditions are bad.

I don't usually, but I recently got a pizza and a young cashier told me at pickup that she applied a coupon that saved me 8 bucks. So of course I tipped her a couple bucks in the jar. But after I thought about it, that's probably a scheme she uses. If so, impressive.

Anyway, this story was stupid.

Well, I'm guessing it is there because the Point of Sale System has it for deliveries/Dine-in, so it's not something they can turn off if it is just a pickup.

If it is a really small-time operation, then maybe a buck into the jar.

For some reason, however, I have always tipped while picking up at Vito and Nick's. I remember seeing people do it when I was a kid, so I still do it.

Not usually.

I have no idea what I did there. Caught it quick but not quick enough.

There's a Bob Barker thread somewhere and when I saw the word "Dine" above, I thought it said (perhaps in part because of the capital D) "Dian," and that reminded me of Dian Parkinson from The Price Is Right. She was a dish into her sixties.

The MRI report was “unremarkable”. I mean, it was good news I didn’t have a tumor, but I think they could of used a better term.

I tip a dollar or two on carry-out for mom and pop places, like delis or chinese. Especially places that put things like paper plates, a bunch of condiments, and all that jazz in the bag.

I'm cool with it. They also prep it in labeled plastic and paper bags. I like keeping these places in business. They like me. I like them.

I never knew how prevelent it was until managing a pizza place. It’s very common for people or businesses who decide to pick up a huge order. Also common tipping cute phone girls. Leash mentioned a trick that I’d do a lot. A customer comes in and mentions they want a couple sides of ranch or a side of giardinara. Maybe I’ll say their order was a good amount of money, let me apply a coupon because we appreciate your business. There’s a tip coming more than likely.

On the flip side, I always tip my local Chinese place. Usually do the lunch special and substitute fried rice for brown and ask for rangoons instead of the egg roll. If you help me out and you’re a pleasant person, I’ll tip.

If you frequent the place regularly and you're of a mind to get friendly with the folks that work there, you could spend you money on considerably worse things. Otherwise, it's ground to consider never going back to a place with a carryout tip jar. Why not just have the waitstaff dress like Emaciated Street Yanni and beg by the front register?

No tip for carryout. Although I got charged $5 making a carryout order from Hero's West in Joliet. Said it right on the receipt!! Never again.
