Listening intermittently, I don't hear that spark, and I don't know where it might come from. Bernstein has had his nuts cut off by the demotion, clearly, but his fun-loving personality has been gone for years. McDoink, to me, is solidifying his role as Weekend National Sports Talk Guy #4.5. Think what you want, but Spiegel—both alone and with Goff/Parkins—has a dynamic personality that made his shows interesting, if not compelling, on most topics, and his bag-ish nature could bring the yuks when he wanted to. When Goff came back to join Spiegel, the show was funny and goofy when it needed to be, and interesting throughout. That just got turned up a notch with the arrival of Parkins, even through Spiegel's pissy adjustment phase, and when the show eventually gelled they were the best show in the lineup.

I don't hear any of the things that foretold "good radio" from Spiegel & Parkins/Goff in Bernstein & McKnight. I don't know what I'm missing, but right now I can barely see this show becoming "meh" after the hosts adjust to one another.

Yeah, DeCastro's "go out there and have fun again" directive doesn't seem to apply to middays. Dan sounds like he's playing out the string more than even his most half-assed "just talk about Gregg Popovich all day" February Sports Dead Zone shows.

I listened for a little bit this morning and I didn't dislike it. A little boring but not bad at all.

My own personal problem is when Connor's talking I keep hearing a little too much Jim Rome voice in it, and it irritates me. RPB might love it though.

Even their first "Midday Midway" feels thrown together and sloppy (no relevant drop to move on, no intro, and billed as literally "this other thing we did"), and the first iteration was uniformly boring.

Oh, Jordan Poole and Jordan Peele got mixed up on Twitter? Can either host make a joke out of that? No? Just reading the tweets of Peele and Poole? Great.

That's the first line on Spiegel's resume objective.

they're going to add a third man to the booth. That's my opinion.

that makes no sense. Money is not what it once was in sports radio. They are not going to include a 3rd salary for a mid day show.

If anything they would cut it to Bernsie solo.

I'm surprised the move wasn't to make it Dan Bernstein and Friends.

They'd get sued for false advertising. Dan Bernstein doesn't have any friends.

But I agree, it should have been solo-ish Bernstein, probably from noon to 3.

I could be a friend to him.

They could save some money by making noon to 1 the "Best Of CBS Sports Minutes" and just replaying 10 of them at a time before doing some commercials.

i've listened to about 6-7 hours of B&M. (haha BM) its better than parkins and speigel (mostly because of speigs) and its better than B&G. i dont' know by what percentage better i feel it is, but its better nonetheless.

so i'm fine. like when goff came on, we were in the same spot in the sports world...esp chicago sports. not much to talk about. we get their first real test with baseball coming up shortly.

The answer to this may be to get drinky out of retirement.

i'm not a guy who disliked him. wouldn't mind him back.

i've livestreamed a few days of this show and i don't think bernstein is built for a live stream. his resting face is just so full of condescension he just looks like he doesnt' enjoy his job.

Make it a 3-man booth of Dan, Drinky, and Spiegs. Then Parkins and Mac can do a gambling segment on which two get into a fight first.

I would hope I'd be able to find some conviction pretty damn quickly if I just had a front row seat to the career execution of my on-air partner and was given another chance. Bernstein is acting like a dead man walking at this point.

"We're going to do something in the next segment that you might find enjoyable, and if it seems familiar to you that's because it is familiar, so something new that's not so new, coming up next..."

FFS...please stop with the 3 man booth suggestions. Too crowded and it is an inefficient and expensive way to overcompensate for hosts that lack entertainment value. I understand the theory of the 3-man booth with MJH. Jurko was the guy Mac wanted as his partner and as a football analyst, he was fantastic and when he wanted to be, Jurko was personable and entertaining. The answer here is….”Jurko, watch the other fucking sports and come with thoughts” not let’ pay a third person to fill in the space while he mails it in. 2 people that are entertaining that do the appropriate show prep should be more than enough.

I’ve heard a little of the show and would say it’s better than I expected. I’m not a Bernstein fan, but to my surprise he’s towing the line. They’re talking sports…they’re keeping the vibe lighthearted. I agree that so far we’ve yet to hear McKnight challenge Bernstein….but he’s not necessarily bad. Over time we will see how it holds up, but I’m trying to keep an open mind and I’m thankful to have actual the return of sports talk radio.

Bernstein acting like Dead Man Walking? I'd say just the opposite. I think he got eh message quite clearly and is acting like someone who would like to stay employed.

The problem is McKnight. Clearly a solid professional. Also clearly vanilla and best relegated to White Sox pre and post. That is the perfect job for him. Not sure what they were thinking with this pairing.

Correct.

McNight is the classic vanilla white. A lot of them have rolled through the SCORE through the years. Paruck, Grote and Ranger were that type of guy just to name a few. Yet they were never considered for a full time show.

Decastro just picked this "Dime a dozen" type of guy for whatever reason. Because he liked him better then the other dozen guys that are the same. It's weird. You just gotta be liked by the boss more than those other guys I guess.

I bet he got Milquetoast McKnight on the cheap. He ain't driving no Range Rover. Probably takes an Uber to work which means maybe he'll get to have a sit down with Goff.
