When I was waiting tables a decade ago I had to work the curbside station one night when the kid called in sick. This was in Naperville.

Got a 150 carry out order. Put it into the system, bagged it up, and put in all the condiments/accessories. Some bleach blonde 40 year old rich housewife pulls up in a BMW 2 series convertible.

I load everything into her car for her and give her the bill. She puts a line through tip and signs it. I wanted to slash her tires. If you can afford 100+ in curbside then you can spare 5 bucks.

So normally I don't tip on carryout but if you are taking it to my car I can spare something.

There was no 2 Series a decade ago.

My issue with some forms of tipping is not because of money, but because it gets out of hand and inconvenient when you have to constantly think about tipping people. I don't like having to wonder whether I should carry cash at all times so that I can tip every single person who helps me in the slightest way. And I'm sure I've unintentionally offended some people by not even thinking about leaving them a tip.

Pro tip, though: when at a hotel, tip the maids every day, even if it's just a buck. Your room will be immaculate when you get back. Sometimes I'll randomly leave a 20, and they almost always leave a thank you note and some kind of gift like candy or free waters. Pretty cool.

A 1 Series, yeah. I was giving you a hard time. They had to rename it once they branded all of their coupes as even numbers and their sedans as odd numbers. And then they screwed it up with the 6 Series Gran Coupe because they are BMW and they don't care.

I want to know why the last four people I talked BMWs with said they break down all the time and cost a ton to repair/maintain. I was considering one.

I had an X5 - aside from feeling like it was too small for my preference ....I loved it and it never broke down. Had it for 3 years with zero problems. As far as maintaining - BMW did all the oil changes/tire rotations/fluid for free at the dealership always topped off with a car wash!

They're full maintenance for 4 years/50k. When stuff goes wrong outside the warranty, you are SOL.
