I figured it out.

As our old friend Jason Goff would say "THERE IT IS".

Decastro needed to fire a white to justify launching Goff.

Because Goff alone would look absolutely racist. Which is what it was regardless. But Decastro was thinking, "If I fire a white with Goff then that takes away from the "bad optics" of me being a racist."

But you can't fool me, Decastro.

So his choice was Bernstein or Spiegel. And he went with Spiegel while giving a demotion to Bernstein. Parkins was never in trouble since he was just hired.

There ya go. I always figure it out.

Why can't you fire the two of them for simply being mediocre radio hosts at best?

And I believe Bernstein was advising Decastro on how to get rid of Goff properly. To prevent the "bad optics". Cuz Bernstein is all about that. So he thought Spiegel with Goff was the best way to handle this. A white with a black. Then sneak Mac back in. Which Bernstein hates. But it was all about survival for Bernstein. So this was the way to protect his white ass.

If you go on the facebook Bernstein and Goff fan pages, you'll find out how great Goff was. And not how bad McKnight is, but more so how bad McNeil is. It is kind of interesting.

Spiegel got the boot because he didn't want to work with Bernstein, Bernstein didn't want to work with him, or Management decided they couldn't work together without derailing entire shows with their dick-waving. Can't decide which of those three is the truth.

If the internal justification for Spiegel's ouster is ratings performance, or that his ratings performance is able to be sacrificed so the station doesn't look racist for firing a black guy just to hire a white guy...whoa boy.

Feels like somewhere between the two to me. They definitely couldn't launch Jason by himself for obvious public relations reasons, we know that. But maybe they felt like Spiegel, in spite of delivering good books, couldn't believably go on with a fifth partner and that it was time to try something new. I don't think Spiegel and Bernstein refused to work with each other. I think Dan would bite the bullet and work with Mac if they made him. But I can see where they would decide there was no true imperative to keep a sidekick of revolving hosts in middays at all costs. I still think he should have been given the late-night slot and creative control to make something of it, maybe something between sports and music, or deep-dive baseball talk after Cubs games, or anything more than Julie DiCaro talking to @OhNoSheTwitnt about ladies' college badminton.

I'm not talking about who deserved to get fired and who didn't.

I'm talking about how DeCastro decided to handle it. It was strategic for the optics.

It's clear he wanted to make a move for the sake of making a move. He's the new boss and new bosses want to do thing just to do them. Put their stamp on their new job. All new bosses want their people. Why it's fucking McNight is beyond everybody. But he got friendly with him so that's what it is.

Mac was in from the start. Goff was out from the start. But Decastro had to figure out a way to do it where he didn't look racist.

So Spiegel goes. Say what you will about Spiegel, we all have, it's not like this McNight is anything great. I would say Spiegel is better as a host than McDoink. There's just a vanilla nothingness to McDoink. Spiegel at least made you hate him if you didn't like him. McDoink doesn't make you like him or hate him. That's bad for a radio host.

I'd take Goff over McDoink if that was the option.

I think deCastro for some bizarre reason being the Number 1 McDoink superfan is being glossed over in this thread as a motive here. He may have just wanted to put get a gig for his guy regardless and Spiegs was simply judged next man out.

It's too bizarre to even think about.

And Bernstein had a role as well. He was the judge that hired McNight in that rigged contest a few years ago. So that was always his boy.

It's all politics and optics. Goff was never good at playing that game. Goff never thought it was important. Bernstein is the master at that game. Mac is good at it as well.

McKnight reminds me of a younger, somewhat hipper Carmen DeFalco. If you went to Target to buy a radio host you would find both of these guys on the shelf.

What is so wrong with rewarding people you trust, and staying away from or getting rid of people you don't?

Poor beardown has been trying to find a new target and he is struggling. Has to go back to the old one to drum up some attention.

Congratulations, dumbass. I posted that point in about a quarter as many words about two hours after the official announcement.
