Nah. I'm not interested in Lebron talk. I don't think Goff and Bernstein were even good at NBA talk. Speigs was much better at it. More knowledgeable frankly.

My point is that you can't continue to ignore it and run a successful sports station.

The most successful franchise in the modern era of this city was a basketball one. The most popular player in the history of this city was a basketball player. Those are facts that can't be ignored.

2/3 rds of the city is comprised of minorities. A great number of them prefer basketball. If you want to know why Sports talk in this city is stagnating i think this would be it.

Just watch the NFL Draft pre-game show beat whatever NBA Playoffs game is airing at the same time.

So you think AM sports talk radio isn't growing because it talks too much football? And you're saying we aren't paying attention?

Could it be that's because the NFL has been the most popular professional sports league for much of the station's life?

Bernstein & Goff tried to entice that audience to their airwaves for over a year, and it was an abject failure. So maybe the black people in Chicago listening to AM sports talk radio aren't that keen on OOT NBA talk, either? And perhaps the younger/younger-minority NBA fan who would enjoy OOT NBA talk is listening to podcasts about those topics instead of terrestrial radio?

I ask again, what is the most popular professional sports league in the country?

Ponder That for a second. A sports show in the 3rd largest market is talking about the most popular sports league in the country in the middle of its free agency period and just a few weeks before the draft.

I doubt that it is the more popular sport in March.

If you don't think that part of the reason for sports talk in Chicago not growing isn't related to this then you aren't paying attention.

I listened to the Score from the very first day 01/02/92 that it aired. I followed it when it was 1160,820, and now 670.

They have always run a Bears centric operation. Little Cub/Sox banter mixed in but heavy on the Bear. Rarely if ever discussed Bulls.

I stopped listening because i tired of it. I'd call the shows too. I supported the station.

This city isn't there anymore and neither is the country. If they want to grow their audience then they have to provide a product that is reflective of the city and the country. Blacks in Chicago listen to the radio too.

Yep. There was no racial angle in mind when this thread was created.

Again its fine as long as the racial angle is discussed on your terms isn't it?

I'm not allowed to infer what the racial angle might be when it comes to all the NBA bashing but you and others are apparently? Is that what i'm supposed to get from all this?

People were called "fucking stupid" for suggesting there was a racial angle in this thread. Then you confirmed that there is one. That's all. Never said you should not talk about it. Just be honest about what you are suggesting.

And sports talk thrives on off season rumors and moves. It's far more interesting a topic of conversation than great game last night in LA for a non-Chicago based team.

At any time in his career, I doubt very much that Mike Francesa could name three starters on the Knicks. Does WFAN still talk any basketball?

I think Evan Roberts, the Danny Parkins of New York, is a big Nets fan, but I can't imagine he gets too far into that without Joe Benigno going "OHHH AYYY OHHHHH AHHHH AYYYY WHAT ARE THESE GUYS DOOOOOIN OH GEEZ" about a Jets employee putting a memo in the wrong mailbox or something

The Oscars would probably beat an NBA playoff game too.

If you aired reruns it wouldn't.

If the NFL draft aired over a 2 month period then it wouldn't.

My credentials are relevant to me becsuse i can simply speak to an era of the Score that you can't.

I have history and mine predates that of Bernstein and Goff. I can speak to an era when the Bulls were good and they still didn't talk about them You can't.

Off Season Football centric talk is boring as shit. I can provide articles which link the "oversaturation" of media coverage to the decline of football ratings too. I say this as a guy that likes football.

Out season sportstalk for any sport is bullshit.

You don't have to because i doubt if any of them will step forward to admit that their dislike of the NBA is at least partially due to race.

We had a dude (Beardown) create racially tinged threads about Goff daily and MANY were loathe to call him on the shit.

This isn't about me suggesting that any or everyone is racist either. What i am suggesting is that racial talk is tolerated in certain quarters on here. It is only troublesome when the minorities bring the shit up. When that happens its oh they are playing the race card.

When whites do it oh he's just being a "boob" or an "idiot".

I don't think the dislike of the NBA talk was due to race so much as the tone. They brought everything at the listener as a negative. I don't care that much about the NBA outside of the Bulls, but would not have minded NBA talk if it wasn't brought on with a heavy dose of being talked down to. Also there was constant trolling of Micheal Jordan, while propping up of LeBron just be be dicks about it.

Some people might hate the NBA because they are racist, but if that's the case I don't think NFL football is the sport for them. Lean towards NASCAR.

Can you point to a time when you personally condemned Beardown for his racially tinged Goff talk? This isn't about me calling you racist either. Its moreso about me gauging your level of tolerance as a guy who " fucking knew it". Did you also know it in Beardown's case too?

I think Mannelly just realized he didn't like going to work at 7 in the morning every day and that it wasn't worth the trouble to keep doing something he wasn't that passionate about. That was the vibe I got. The Score has been trying to make stars of Bears for years and they reached out to him because he's not mushmouthed nor terribly brain-damaged. He was boring and probably bored. I think he tried to talk other sports, but he was never going to have credibility with the audience on hockey or baseball. Hell, he was a long snapper; he barely had credibility with the audience on football.

Blacks love football too. I like football. I hate football talk during the off season. That is my point. There is no reason to talk about a sport to the level they talk football when it is 5 months away.

Because the NFL has an established racial hierarchy that people get off on. (Though come to think of it, lots of NBA fans got off on black players subverting the will of their Jewish employers to build superteams with their friends.)

You're also conflating the argument. There is a disdain for the NBA on here. No other sport is vilified to the level that it is. If i start bumping some of those threads it will become very apparent very quickly.
