Even as a kid, I just always assumed it was a trick to get me to behave. Its no different than Santa's nice and naughty list. The concepts of heaven and hell are a driving force for why I don't actively push my kid into Catholicism. I feel its more important to make Heaven here and then be surprised when the lights go out. .

It seems like an odd reason not to hand down something, especially given that the concept of hell was never really pushed theologically in our lifetimes.

Do you believe in evil as something more than a concept?

So he said your soul just disappears after you die instead of going to hell.

So banished from all existence is supposed to be better, I guess??

So because it wasn’t pushed recently you think it’s a good idea to pass along a belief system of an invisible man in the sky using a point system to determine if people should burn in eternal flames?

I think it is odd that he would use that as the reason not to pass it along as it wasn't a focal point of his education in the faith.

There is not point system. Heaven is always available.

I like to give people the benefit of doubt on religion. They like ceremony and tradition. I really do not understand how otherwise smart people can think that a magical dictator manages a happy place that you go to after you die if you show him enough respect.

Heaven and Hell were pushed VERY heavily during my time in Catholic school, 80's-90's. I frequently heard it from my teachers, from my parents and from the church. I didn't want my daughter to have that same experience. We still hold the values and faith of Jesus Christ, but I don't agree with some of the dogma from the church.

As far as evil goes, yes, I believe people can become evil for a variety of reasons. I'm not an expert, but I know religion doesn't fix it. Threatening people with hell doesn't fix it. Fear only works so well.

Would you agree the message of Jesus has differences from the message of the church?

Try reading the original post

"Scalfari says to the Pope, "Your Holiness, in our previous meeting you told me that our species will disappear in a certain moment and that God, still out of his creative force, will create new species. You have never spoken to me about the souls who died in sin and will go to hell to suffer it for eternity. You have however spoken to me of good souls, admitted to the contemplation of God. But what about bad souls? Where are they punished?"

It isn't, and it's not meant to be. Why would you accept something with zero evidence to support it?

It's plainspoken. That's what the claims of the text are. I find the need to treat a manmade book as some sort of sacred text to be far more offensive and dangerous.

Definitely. It's a headtrip your kids don't need. I'm not a believer any longer, but there is still good stuff in religion.

Don't fathom, he didn't say it.

“I try to understand the person I am interviewing, and after that I write his answers with my own words,” Scalfari explained. He conceded that it is therefore possible that “some of the Pope’s words I reported, were not shared by Pope Francis.”

Scalfari also falsely reported that Pope Francis had made comments denying the existence of hell in 2015.

Pope Francis has previously spoken about the existence of hell in public speeches, including at a prayer vigil in March 2014.

There he gave an address in which he said that members of the mafia should change their lives, “while there is still time, so that you do not end up in hell. That is what awaits you if you continue on this path.”
