But there is one big difference. Bernstein and North were smart enough to get paid in radio for 15 years before they went off the rails.

That's where Goff made his mistake. Get the money first. Then go bat shit crazy. That's how you do it.

-North was doing the Chicago sports fan for years. Had enough status to where he convinced management to give him a morning show for 1 million plus where he can talk politics.

-Bernstein was different for his first 6 or 7 years with Boers. Goofy. Not tackling serious issues. Making fun of gays. Objectifying women. Then he changed. After he got paid and had some status.

-Goff dove in right away. Still on his rookie contract. Before the big money. Now he'll never see the big money or Chicago radio for that matter.

That's the only difference with Goff vs. North and Bernstein. Those crackers made bank. Bernstein is still surviving. But he's been put on notice. And the money will be less in the next contract if he remains in middays. But at least he had a 15 year run of collecting escalating checks.

Goff, you done fucked up.

Don't listen to haters, Beardown. I appreciate how you start several threads to share the same tired thesis: we gotta do something to move the meters.

The cool thing about Dan McNeil is he was bat shit crazy from the start and it worked. But he's rare. So he always got chances. Plus he knew how to play these radio execs. Goff doesn't.

And Mac is white. That's certainly a factor. Goff won't get a 2nd chance from these white radio guys. But Goff knew that going in. That's why he should have played this differently. And I warned him. I also warned him not to trust Bernstein. He laughed at me about that. Now he has blocked Bernstein from his twitter.

I'm not as dumb as you think.

Did Goff Tweet that he left The Score to pursue his life-long dream of being a sports handicapper?

Has it been confirmed that Goff blocked Bernsie on twitter?

Wait, what?

I feel like I missed a lot re: Goff? He's a sports handicapper? How can somebody tell if somebody is blocked by a 3rd party on twitter?

1) it was a joke about the North/Goff similarities.

2) there's not a way I know of for X to know whether Y blocked Z, but we do know that Jason no longer follows Dan.

What we do know is that I predicted all of this shit 10 years ago. I knew this would eventually go bad. Knew it would go down this way. I warned the drink and Goff. I tried to get them to see the light. But they went to the dark side instead.

Beardown : can you get an interview for Goff a CMFB exclusive? You should tape it with your camera too and post it on here .

I remember Bernstein in the early early days. He was annoying shitbag back then too. No idea how he got so far w/ that act. He was great match for Terry, 2 negative douchebags who have never seen a happy day in their lives and hate to see others happy. But Terry and McNeil on the HFC were 100x better than Boers/Bernstien.

My point is Goff should have waited. From a strategic aspect . From a business aspect. Like North and Bernstein did before him.

Do the bullshit sports radio talk when you're on the rookie contract. Make some safe jokes. That sort of thing. Having Bernstein with him should have been a slam dunk to maintain the gig for a few years. That was a nice landing spot for him.

Then, once the ratings are good, and you get that 2nd contract, that's when you can go nuts. Cuz you have guaranteed big money. Goff went FULL BERNSTEIN before he was set up.

He should have waited before he starting shooting at whitey. We deserve to be killed. We suck. But Goff isn't here to do it now because he couldn't wait. You gotta play the game. Goff didn't figure this out.

Goff was too excited to get the prime slot so quickly. It sounds like he had no professional mentoring or guidance. Maybe people wanted to help him and he refused or it was racism. Maybe he thought Bernstein was going to help him but that guy is out for only Bernstein.

He should just lay off the internet w/ his rants. If he's still collecting a paycheck then act like a professional and end this thing so you look good going out. You don't want to look like a asshole going out. You're going to run into the same people in this business who may decide your next gig, so people will remember how you acted when you left.

But not sure if he's going to do that. Maybe it's a generational thing. Seems like the kids these days are use to bitching on the twitter that they can't separate that with what you need to do professionally at work.

And Goff had a lesson in Atlanta. I never bought for a second that "Salsa" was the reason that he got fired. It built up to that. That was the excuse that his boss used. But they were sick of him for many other reasons. No doubt about that. "Salsa" was the final straw that they decided to use to blow him up.

Goff is always gonna say "I'm keepin' it real". That's fine. But you want to keep a job while you're doing that. He's been fired quickly in his last two stops. That's not a good look for him. BAD OPTICS.

If he gets a 3rd chance in media he should change. But he won't. And if he gets a regular job outside of media nobody cares about anything else he has to say about anything. They just want you to do the job. That will be a hard realization for Goff. Since radio is all he's known.

Is Goff under 30? The way you describe him he sounds professionally immature. But the guy's been a producer before he was a host. Guy must be in the biz how for what at least 5 years? It's not like he's a rookie at this.

He's gotta be like 35-37 to have been at the Score as long as he has.

Can someone summarize the "Salsa" story in 1 or 2 sentences?

Also, if I remember correctly, when Bernstein started, he was going to be the next "Mike Greenberg", who had just left for bigger
and better National things at ESPN. Bernstein mocks him now, but secretly, I'm thinking Bernstein envies him...

It's Beardown. It's his bit. And since Goff is the last of his "guys" (Drinky gone, Rongey in St L.), he's squeezing the hell outta that lemon. Because if Goff goes away for good, so does Beardown's bit.

Like to know the salsa story too.

Ya Bernstein blew it and played it safe. Had all the doors for national open to him without even trying where other guys don’t even get a sniff after decades.

Goff put his wang in a bowl of Salsa live on the air. Then asked for only women callers. The 6th caller won the right to lick it off. Then his ass got fired.

True story.

That is not what happened, but it is funny.

Everyone knows that he took all of his vacation days early down in Atlanta to open an upstart custom Salsa-to-your-door business strictly for dudes on the DL.

I'm still wondering how the title of this thread makes any sense.

North and Goff:

Grew up on the far north side, got in on the ground floor of the Score and have had no real broadcasting careers outside it, lack formal education but make up for it in street smarts and people skills, were most successful as regular-guy voices who weren't afraid of team management, think that their audiences expect and even demand their perspectives on matters beyond sports, were wrong and lost their jobs as a result

You guys are right. It should just be North = Goff.

I'll change it.

Never in a million years would Goff ever think he was the black Mike North. But it's true. As far as his radio career.

Only difference is Norh lasted 15 years and didn't go nuts until the last 5 years. Goff only lasted 3 years as host at the SCORE.
