As I said, I have no doubt that Justify is the fastest horse. He is also very large and appears to be a herd dominating type of horse. But he's never been in a situation where he's been put under real pressure. We'll have to wait until May 5 to find out how he responds to it.

The race is always crazy - things like the number of horses, post, first time shipping take their toll on these horses.

Justify looks real tough. He's got that swagger on the course you see from a Derby winner.

Yeah, and it's obvious he's the fastest horse.

That 1 1/8 mi. time of 1:49.72 was slow at San Anita. I wouldn't consider him the fastest horse among all the contenders.

It has to be Mendlesohn, with Audible and Magnum Moon very close.

I'm pulling for My Boy Jack to get in the Derby.

Nobody has figs like Justify. Of course, there's more to racing than raw speed. But it's hard to argue that Justify isn't the fastest three year old so far this year.

I liked how Justify finished the San Anita, running hard with his head down. But I don't see how that one race makes him the favorite in the Derby, when San Anita as a track is very suspect. I have seen more bogus results there than at any other track. You see a lot of random walk at Santa Anita, that is, results that cannot be justified quantitatively. In any case, the contenders out of the West Coast are few. Justify is a good horse, but if you gave me the field against Justify, I would take the field.

I am not sure how good Magnum Moon will be at the longer distance. I think Good Magic would be ok, so would Audible. Mendelsohn has already run almost at the Derby distance. So Audible, Good Magic and Mendelsohn are the main contenders. In the next tier, I would put Solomini, who has hit the board in every race he's been in, with three G1s and a G2. I like him as a dark horse along with Flameaway and My Boy Jack.
