I'm a bit perplexed by this picture I'm looking at in the Sun-Times today.

It is supposed to show Joe Crede hitting a key double, Paul Konerko hitting a HR, El Duque pointing during the Boston series and Uribe making a leaping catch.

But the picture I'm looking at shows a left handed hitter (to the right hand side of Uribe) swinging a bat (it damned near looks like Thome - who wasn't even here in '05).

The White Sox website shows the statue from the other side, and it shows two right handed hitter smacking the ball, and Uribe on the other side of the statue leaping for the catch.

Something's just weird about it...

I'm at the club right now, and this lousy computer won't let me copy links to .jpgs.....

Could that left handed hitter be A.J?

Sox have gotten a little Statue happy. Baines? Come on

and putting them outside the park on 35th might have a little more effect.

The 2005 would probably be more appropriate than any they have done

I agree. Why put up a statue to commemorate the 2005 title? Jeez. What arrogance. How could they do something like that?

I'll hand it to the Cubs Big Fan. They never put up World Series statues around Wrigley. Must be out of modesty.

It could have been AJ, but wouldn't he have been running down the first base line after a called third strike? ;)

Actually the sculpture said it featured FOUR players and key moments - so I have no idea who the lefty was.

Maybe it was a mirror image from the other side of the statue.

This picture from WhiteSox.com makes sense, but not the one in today's Sun Times:

It almost looks like they printed it backwards... i cant see any words or signs to confirm this.

*edit

actually, no... you can clearly read the numbers and Uribe the right way.

Mystery solved.

It's Geoff Blum - which was definitely another defining moment.

The newspaper articles in both papers only mention FOUR moments, but the video here points it out:

So Beardown when I said

"The 2005 would probably be more appropriate than any they have done"

You somehow took this as a Negative?

No. I heard what you said Big Fan. I just wanted to make a snide remark. Cubs fans can take it.

Where is the World Series MVP on this f-ing statue?

What a slap in the face to Dye.

It's racism!!!!!! Get Jesse Jackson on the case.... He loves statue controversies.

Dye got his World Series MVP trophy - and he'll have it until he has to sell it on E-Bay to pay off debt, and he should be happy about that, as many thought others were more deserving.

"many" others? Konerko had one big hit...no one pitcher truely dominated. Pods had blum had one big hit apiece. Crede was the only one as deserving of the MVP as Dye was. If anything, i2005 was the ultimate team win.

To clarify Franklin W Coztansa, the statue isn't for 'THE WORLD SERIES' games - it's for the entire playoff run.

In looking at the numbers the MVP could have gone to several guys:

Dye and Crede were the front runners - as you correctly pointed out
You could argue Konerko(most RBIs), and how about Buerhle with the save? Or Jenks with four appearances, 2 saves and the most strikeouts amongst the pitchers.

Truly a team victory: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/ws/yr2005ws.shtml

Ahh...2005 - what a season. :)

We looked more dumb when, before this, we would celebrate division championships and commemorate those anniversaries. How many times were the 83 White Sox talked about and revered? They didn't even make the World Series. Hell, Cubs fans worship the 84 Cubs. They worship the 69 Cubs and they didn't make post season.

No. It's fine. I think this is the first of it's kind in MLB. A statue celebrating a championship. Other teams will copy this. I find nothing wrong with it.

Then I hope we look just as foolish after this season. I'll suffer the indignities with aplomb and grace. 8)
