What was that all about? The guy gets fired from the station and now he's given an on-air interview? Who is next to be interviewed? Spike Manton? Huge?

Or is this just another example of the new media cross-promotion handjobbery? Was this done in return for some Sun Times promotion of ESPN?

Thumbs up to Masters talk. Thumbs down to Mariotti.

If I want to hear some insight from some media bloke about the Masters, crotchety Jay Mariotti wouldn't be on my list. Hell, is he even at the course? Knowing his MO of not going into locker rooms or actually talking to athletes, he's probably mailing it in from his hotel room. In fact, he suggested as much when he mentioned what he learned from talking with guys he drank with last night. It may just be me, but he might have been more enlightening had he bothered to talk to a real golfer and share that.

And if the boys really don't know who in the media they should interview about golf, here are several suggestions: Brian Hewitt, Kelly Tilghman, Gary McCord, Brandel Chamblee.

Marioti has lost all credibility for writing about Chicago radio media now.

Of course he probably would have needed some credibilty in the first place before he could lose it...

I wasn't aware the windsock had any credibility on many subjects, let alone golf. Here's a little prediction: If Tiger wins the Masters, his Monday column will be how Tiger is the G.O.A.T. and he's off on the pursuit of the Grand Slam. If Tiger doesn't win, Mariotti's Monday column will be how Tiger choked. Tiger could lose by one shot and to Mariotti, that's the difference between G.O.A.T. and choker. Golf credibility indeed.

Yeah. I didn't really understand why they would want his thoughts on the Masters.

They would have been better off talking to pretty much anyone else with any sort of golf knowledge.

I think Mariotti and Silvy are still friends, or at least keep in touch with each other. This wasn't the first time Mariotti has been on a Silvy show since he was let go. Pretty sure he this is at least his 2nd time on with Silvy and Waddle.

I think this is correct. Silverman still has a friendly relationship with him. He may be the only radio host in Chicago who does though.

Let's face it, Marriotti gave Silvy a spot on his show a few years ago when Silvy was not very well established and it helped him make a name for himself in this market. Silvy apparently is a guy who believes in being loyal to those who have helped you and probably has some genuine respect and admiration for a guy who has accomplished a great deal in this market.

That said, I hate Marriotti. I think he lets personal issues get in the way of objectivity. I believe that he is constantly looking for any reason to rip Guillen or Reinsdorf or anyone else that he has had rifts with. AND I think he is a coward-as he doesn't want to go into the Sox clubhouse because he's afraid of what might happen after ripping Sox guys. But most of all, I think Ozzie was right. A guy who calls LaTroy Hawkins LaToya and called Rick Aguilera- Christina Aguilera, and then calles for Ozzie to be fired or suspended for calling him a F_G, is a F_G.
