Even if I agree with that, saying that the Federal Government shouldn't step in to overregulate guns is now an idea that is that "unpopular"? (it's not - that's just what the media would represent it as). That's a problem. Our Second Amendment is in direct contradiction with that line of thinking.
"Do nothing and just accept it that school shootings are going to happen" is a lot different than overregulating guns.

It's also kind of ironic that your first post in this thread was this:

When I have never said anything close to that.

But you have said something very close to that on multiple occasions. You justify it with the logic that if the NRA won't agree with you on the problem and solution you're gonna be stubborn and extreme too and just stay on the side of banning all guns.

Quote?

I once made a modest proposal to repeal the 2nd amendment.

The NRA is pushing me away from their side with the idea that the solution to guns in schools is adding significantly more guns to schools but I still think gun ownership is an important right. I just haven't settled on the idea that school shootings are the cost of having enough firepower to resist our government in the plausible citizens vs government war we will see in our lifetimes.

Again, you keep assuming that imaginary "gun control" will eliminate school shootings. You have no idea if it would (it wouldn't ).

Anyway, back to the topic of this thread, I don't get destroying your property like a cooler to make a political point any more than I understood why anyone would saw apart their AR15 ti make a political point. Seems show offy and counterproductive.

Sure... I'll answer. A responsible gun owner follows the 4 rules. If the gun owner treated the gun like it was loaded, only fired at something he intended to destroy, didnt put his finger on the trigger until ready to fire, and knew what was behind his target, I'd say he acted responsibly. I dont judge what people to shoot at if they do so safely. If they want to destroy their own property I'm cool with it.
Sometimes I go to buffalo rock range. They have a plinking pit where you can toss targets into. I've seen Christmas blow molds, and even a paddle boat down there.

Shooting inanimate objects requires an explanation of motive now?

When it's done to send a message to someone or something it is a little different than shooting an inanimate object.

What if someone hacked apart a gun to send a message? Equally problematic?

Your "rules" always seem to be contingent upon your personal and subjective view of how bad they are.

What the hell does "send a message" mean?

Ok well that happened too. I really didnt care about it because if someone wants to be an idiot and damage their own property that on them.
I suppose one could argue that such a display is protected speech.

Ask the people who called out Yeti after shooting their cooler if they were sending a message or not.

They were. The message was "Yeti sucks and I don't like them anymore". Somehow you got "I am going to kill multiple people in the future" as the message.

So everyone who has shot a gun to "send a message" should be interrogated by the FBI and subjected to mental health examinations. Good luck writing that law.

Best way to get your point across is to take a couple nitwits on YouTube and apply that mindset to millions of NRA members.

Former NRA president and top lobbyist Marion Hammer told members in a letter last week that Yeti abruptly “declined to do business with The NRA Foundation” and wouldn’t say why.

“They will only say they will no longer sell products to The NRA Foundation. That certainly isn’t sportsmanlike. In fact, YETI should be ashamed,” Hammer wrote.

Yeti said that mischaracterizes what happened.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Monday, Yeti called the letter “inaccurate.”

It said it had decided to eliminate a group of outdated discounting programs and had notified the NRA Foundation and other organizations about the change. It also said it had offered them an "alternative customizations program broadly available to consumers and organizations, including the NRA Foundation.”

Yeti went on to say that it featured and would continue to feature hunters in in its film footage and social media posts, and that it was "unwavering in its belief in and commitment to the Constitution of the United States and its Second Amendment."

Hammer hit back at Yeti’s statement in comments to the Post.

“After three days Yeti issued a statement claiming they didn’t really drop the NRA Foundation,” Hammer said. “They claim they simply eliminated the entire program affecting NRA Foundation and other unnamed organizations. Isn’t that like eliminating a job position so you can get rid of an employee?”

I dunno. Seems like their leadership is a bunch of crybabies setting the tone for their members.

It's almost as if the concept of "missed warning signs" is useless and only serves to distract from the real issues?
