When filming Blue Chips, a super old Cousy sunk like 20 free throws in a row in one shot. Nolte told the story in interviews. Guessing he was decent, but not sure.

I don't think it's fair to evaluate Hurley in any discussions about his NBA career. The traumatic car accident/injury he suffered a month into his rookie year pretty much derailed his entire career.


Ask UNLV if Hurley could shoot? You could ask Kansas too, I seem to remember Hurley knocking down a huge 3 late in that one as well.

Hurley wasn't wearing a seat belt, and he was broadsided while making a left turn and ejected from the vehicle.

He landed in a drainage ditch and suffered a severed trachea, two collapsed lungs, a fractured left shoulder blade, five broken ribs, a small compression fracture in his back, a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, a fractured right fibula and a sprained wrist.

One surgeon said Hurley's injuries would have killed 99 out of 100 victims. The Kings' lottery pick and former All-American at Duke and St. Anthony of Jersey City, N.J., returned to the NBA the following season, but was a physically diminished player. He was out of the league by 1998.


That's Hurley's car. If I remember correctly, a teammate was driving by and saw the wreck and pulled Hurley out of the water where he probably would've died otherwise.


That's why it's very disengenuous to discuss Hurley's NBA career. There's no way of knowing what type of player he would've become. It's actually pretty amazing that he was able to come back and play at all, let alone play 7 years in the league.

He did shoot 42% from 3 his junior and senior year, but overall he wasn't a great shooter in college. But he was always a clutch shooter. Made huge 3's against UNLV and Kansas in the final four.

I didn’t really mean exclusively NBA. It’s hard to think of any that played D1 college ball, either.

If you open it up to college you'd get quite a few more. One in particular that I can think of off the top is the kid that played at Ohio State a few years ago. Can't think of his name off top but he did everything really well except shoot. He got a few NBA looks but I don't think he cracked the league.

Lots of guys in college who can't shoot, but thinking about solid little white guys who can't shoot the one that come to mind is Craft at Ohio State a few years ago. I seem to remember him not being a good shooter.


Hard to think of any others off the top of my head. It is very difficult to be a tiny white guy who is good at basketball without possessing a jumper.
