It's just reality. Outside of Patrick Willis, what GREAT 3-4 defenses are that because of a catalyst at ILB? Willis was the exception. It's a non-premium position.

Your reality seems like a pretty awful place when it comes to football thoughts, I'm afraid.

As opposed to your reality? Where a 13-34 GM deserves the respect and trust of a Bill Beliciek?

I'll choose mine over yours any day of the week. Feels less like an abysmal wasteland.

Pace needs to have a first rounder he can point to and say "look! I know what I'm doing!" so he went the safest route. That's the only reason this happened. Its self preservation.

People thought Kevin White was the same type of "safe & fills a need" pick, and now Pace gets routinely crucified for it.

White was a project. Amari Cooper was the proven WR in that draft.

Right. These picks often don't work out. That fact sadly doesn't intervene with the thought process that GM's use to make them.

nobody thought that.... they saw white's measureables and overlooked the fact he was very unpolished as a WR and ran a limited route tree at WV

They had no use for White. I like to have some hope and think Leonard Williams was their guy and the Jets swooped him.

all you need to watch is the GIF of the delayed blitz and how quickly he gets home.... it moved for me watching that.

This. I do agree there is some "I can't blow this pick" element here. Smith with be a solid starter, that is a given.

That won't be available much in the NFL. The back blew his assignment. You take the inside guys first..all the time as a blocking RB...outside comes last.

i can't agree, the reason it's a safe pick is Smith has most of the measureables you want AND has great football instinct. high floor high ceiling player IMO

Well Floyd was drafted a 25 year old project and now two years later he hasn't really produced at all and he's older than most guys entering free agency.

The White pick honestly might not be as bad as the Floyd waste.

If Nelson wasn't there, I wanted a trade down to the middle of the 1st.(I liked Davenport there). Getting two 2nd's would have been sweet. Do you see much difference between Smith and Evans from Alabama? To me they are the same.

i too had hoped for a trade down, but once they announced the bills trade.... drafting Smith became the only option

I think the pick looks good but the big concern is that Ryan Pace thought it was a good pick to make so you have to question if it actually was a bad pick.

My son & I were watching that as he was drafted and he went ballistic about how no broadcaster was pointing that out.

This is where I'm at too. On the plus side though, at least he's not from Notre Dame!

Exactly. We already have to root for a guy from IU. A Notre Dame guy would make me question my fanhood.

Don't forget Penn State(Adrian Amos, Allen Robinson) and Michigan State(Benny Fowler and Dion Simms)!

Wow. If I had a daughter I'd have to raise her to be a Packers fan. Not a big deal for a son though.

Um. Any linebacker in college football can get to the quarterback when there is no one between him and the quarterback. What would have happened if there was a 320# guard or tackle between him and that qb?

Um. The clip illustrates his elite speed, and also the fact the QB wasn't able to shake him shows his tackling ability. you see it all the time in the pros a free blitzer gets faked out by the Qb and the QB escapes. jeez, some of you are even more negative than i am
