It's not a disaster, it's just not ideal. You probably won't get an immediate impact player outside the top five, true, but the pick still has value, whether for the Hawks or someone else. If the Hawks can't swing Karlsson, I expect them to go for Ekman-Larsson, though I've always felt he was overrated due to the same country club factor that elevated guys like Michael Frolik and Jay Bouwmeester to god status until they had to play on real teams.

Chris Pronman, who I think is the best prospect guy in the business, says the dropoff comes after 9. I would love any of Hughes, Boqvist, Walstrom, or Tkachuk. The problem with Hughes and Boqvist is that they are the furthest away but they have the highest upside. I hope they don't take Bouchard or Dobson. Tkachuk probably won't be there.

If Tkachuk is the shithead his brother and father are, he's a perfect fit for Vancouver.

The Blackhawks' second first-round pick is now slotted at #27 with the Predators' elimination. You can interpret this pick one of two ways:

1) their de facto second-round pick (their own second, #38, was lost to Montreal in the disastrous Danault trade) to go with their own first

2) Hartman was traded for Victor Ejdsell str8^ and this pick is free real estate

Either way, I think at least one of #8 and #27, if not both, is getting traded. 27 by itself won't get you anything but with picks/prospects you could trade up a few spots. But given where the talent drops off in this draft (around 10ish, and 27+ won't get you that high) only way I see that happening is Stan getting derped on numerous potential roster-player trades, falling in love with an NCAAer or Swede who plummeted in the draft, and nabbing said plummeter around 18-24.
