So about 7:45, Mike starts giving a detailed rundown of the baseball standings: who's in what place by how many games, how everyone's done in their last 10 games, who's on a long winning or losing streak, etc. I'm thinking, OK, at least this is better than discussing Jen's new shoes or something like that, but having just looked at the standings online before leaving for work, I'm listening to him and saying to myself, wait, this doesn't sound right.

Finally, Fred chimes in and tells him his information isn't up to date because he's not including last night's games and that's why he (Fred) always prints the latest standings from the Internet when he gets in. Mike admits he's using the early edition of the Sun Times and adds, "Well, dat's OK, cuz I'm just givin' a tumbnail sketch of tings."

Hey, moron, learn how to use the Internet for your $1.5 million. Morning drive sports talk in the computer age in Chicago with two teams doing well and this idiot's giving day-old stats.

And Fred, maybe give Mike a copy of those standings you print out.

I consider the whole segment a tremendous waste of time.

Yeah. He's reading the MLB division standing? Wow. That sounds like some great radio. As boring as that sounds the idiot isn't even reading the up to date standings. Unbelievable.

You gotta love how Pappy just thinks of things to do on the fly. No preperation. Just trying to kill 4 hours. To be honest, I think discussing Jennifer's outfits is better than reading the standings.

I'm shocked that Fred didn't agree with Mike after he told the wrong standings. Long time reader first time poster. I used to listen to the Score all the time but everyones shtick got really old really quick and figure I watch enough sports to formulate my own opinion. I don't need someone yelling into a microphone to the way I should think.

Yes, but he was adding informative comments like, "In da AL East, Toronto is in first place. How sad am I gonna be if dey win it? When me an' Rock was at Caesar's, da odds on dem was 45-1 an' I was gonna bet, but didn't."

It's kind of fitting he has out-of-date information. Actually, he should have read the standings from about 1958, because in his world Eisenhower is president and Sinatra is the king.

That would be a function of show prep that would fall to Rock, Jen or the other guy they have.

The reaction was due to a really REALLY old, burned out joke, a joke so damned old that it just makes you roll your eyes instead of crack even a tiny smile these days.
