They've got to do something. I have no clue if they main guy mentioned coming back is any good or not however. But if Toews is no longer a top tier guy, then move him and get that cap room. Maybe require Seabrook be part of any package??

Galchenyuk's usually good for 50-55 points that don't really amount to anything. As critical as I've been of Toews, I'll take my chances on a rebound before I send him off PLUS EIGHTH OVERALL for a career-long disappointment like Galchenyuk.

yeah, Hawks 1st round pick going back the other way with Toews didn't even read right. Maybe if they flipped and sent their 1st round and took a Hawks later round pick instead....even then. Toews should fetch at least one first round pick coming back + a 1st or 2nd line player + another player on a team-favorable deal and/or another earlier round draft pick. And maybe a minor league defenseman/goalie prospect. Maybe if the other team's going to take another bad contract off the Hawks hands with Toews, could require a bit less. Might need a 3 team deal to get it all done, esp if you're trying to dump another bad contract. Hello, Coyotes?

I don't see McDonough signing off on a Toews deal, nor Toews himself, who has a no-movement clause and probably likes it here just fine. Canadian players are highly allergic to actually playing in Canada -- you'll note that the Jets' roster is overwhelmingly American/Nordic and the Habs have been criticized for years because they sign too many Americans and Eastern Europeans and not enough Canadians. I'd explore Anisimov to the Habs because they need some mass in their lineup and no one exemplifies the lowered expectations of the Montreal Canadiens quite like Artem Anisimov, but Toews kinda has to be here to stay, for better or worse.

That is a ridiculous proposal when the draft picks are included. Toews for Galchenyuk is interesting. Toews is the superior player but at more than double the price for the next 2 seasons. Galchenyuk's usage in Montreal has been all over the place. There have been rumors that he is a party guy which has led to him being in the doghouse as well as his spotty defensive game. I have no doubt that he would out-point Toews in the right situation but Toews will be the better all-around player for the next few years. Regardless, no chance this is happening.

It would have to be a pick swap(not getting the Hawks pick this year outright) and they take on all of Toews contract. If it's that, it's a solid deal for the Blackhawks.

I'd rather package Toews and Seabrook off to a franchise that needs to hit the cap floor. Pipe dream, however.

I read on the twitter, unless Toews asks he isn't being moved.

The only thing I can imagine is he goes home to Winnipeg at some point when he wants to be done here.

He can be the #3C behind Scheifele and Roslovic in 2024. I'll set a reminder on my phone.

This can't happen.

It will tarnish the future Toews and Kane statues that will be put up next to Mikita and Hull at the UC in 25 years.

in practical application, aren't these "no trade' clauses more about the players controlling where they get traded than absolute bars to any trade.

Yes - anyone can waive anything if they agree to it.

Clickbait site notwithstanding, I can see where if the team was gonna go tank mode and decide to rebuild, Toews, Seabrook, et al could agree to be traded to a contender as long as they still get paid. Very unlikely, but the remote possibility exists.

Of course, but Toews would certainly prevent a trade to a go-nowhere team like Montreal. And if you think people are on his ass here...

This is garbage that it's even being discussed.

Don't trade Toews. Don't trade Kane. Don't care how shitty they are now.

Kane isn't even shitty! He had like 76 points, which is a down year, but considering how poor the roster was and how low his shooting percentage was (9%), that's still pretty good.
