Had a very long morning, so have no idea what time this was at, but didn't Mike talk about going out last night to celebrate something?

While I have no idea what is was, maybe he disclosed it on the air?

but did I not hear something right or did everyone else miss it?

I too heard bits and pieces about celebrating something over by Viagra Triangle establishments where he had a couple cokes. Didn't catch what the occasion was either. Please share!

As closely as I can remember it, I believe he said, "I was jus' celebratin' life. You know, ya work hard an' den' when tings go yer way, it's good."

At the time, it just went in one ear and out the other, but now I see this could be interpreted as contract news. But it could go either way--did he get an amount of money and a role he's happy with, or is he finished, but celebrating that he can still have a good life with what I would assume is some decent coin in the bank to fall back on.

talk about a dead show.

It's just strange tuning in when you have not listened in awhile. Listen to Howard for 2 weeks then tune in to North's show and you feel like you are sitting behind 2 goofs at the movie theatre who are trying to have an intelligent conversation and while you are fascinated at the IQ level of a 5th grader, after 15 minutes, you change the dial for another 2-3 weeks.

Whether it's Mike's way of forcing the issue or not, but his not so subtle way of letting the listeners know he will be gone by his off the cuff remarks is very unprofessional. Hey, if you're not apart of the future of the SCORE then accept it and move on. The way CBS operates, I wouldn't take it personal. Plenty of people have moved on to much better things than working for CBS.

CBS got rid of: John Rooney. Pat Foley, Bobby Skafish, even Howard Stern, so why not Mike North? It's all about the Benjamins boys.

Just a stab in the dark, but are you Julie Swieca?

CBS did not get rid of Howard Stern. He left for Sirius because they offered him $500 million.

Yes - My point exactly - CBS didn't match the offer so Stern walked!

Stern wanted more freedom that satellite radio would provide. He wanted to build that industry as well. He was fed up with FCC regulations on regular radio.

Roony was let go by Reinsdorf. Not CBS. Sox pay their announcers. CBS (WSCR) pays the Sox for the rights to broadcast them.

Not so. Read the interview with Brooks Boyer currently available at whitesoxinteractive.com. He makes it clear that the radio announcers are employees of the Score, not the Sox.

Yeah, like doing webcasts with Fritzie from their basements.

Really? I thought I remember Ranger telling us that he's paid by the Score but not Farmer and Singleton.

Ok. I guess it doesn't matter. I mean, if the Sox were to pay the announcers that would mean the Score would pay more for the rights. If the Score pays that means the Sox charge them less for the rights. Either way, I'm sure Reinsdorf has influence. So Mitch was the one that hired Singleton?

Hawk and D.J are paid by the Sox right?

The following is straight from the mouth of Brooks Boyer, the guy at the Sox who's at least partly responsible for decisions regarding broadcasting. I can't say for sure who pays Hawk & DJ, though. (Two things--this interview was done when Singleton was still there and also note who he uses as an example of a hire that the Sox would nix right away.)

“We have a significant amount of input. If we don’t want someone or if say WSCR radio doesn’t want someone, either party can veto the choice. It’s a collaborative process, both of us have a large say in the matter. For example, and I’m just using this name, not that he was ever a candidate, if WSCR radio came to us and said we want Mike North in the Sox broadcasting booth, we’d say no. Why would we want someone who is going to knock our product or be very critical of it?”

“Regarding the specifics on Chris, it’s no secret that it came down to either him or Tommy John. There was a mutual feeling among us and WSCR that we wanted a fresh voice. Tommy and Ed were both pitchers and both played in the same era. The game had changed a lot since they were playing. We felt it would be better to have Ed’s perspective on the game and Chris’ who played at a different time in a different position and certainly Chris, like Tommy, was a member of the Sox family.”

“The process that time started when we put together a list of ten to fifteen names, WCSR radio put together a list of ten to fifteen names and then we interviewed candidates. We’d speak with them, then WSCR radio interviewed them, then we interviewed some candidates together before we made a choice.”

“Both Chris and Ed are employees of WSCR radio, not the White Sox.”

Steve Stone and Ed Farmer are both pitchers who played during the same era too.

Yes, I also noticed how that consideration seemed to go out the window once Stone became available.

Yeah. You don't need a hitter and a pitcher.

Hell, most teams only have one former player in the booth. Usually the play by play guy never played the game. He's just a professional broadcaster who went to school for these type of jobs.

I think the departed Nostradamus 1 & Nostradamus 2 both miss Irish Boy.
