Stupid gimmick. Honor the dead in better ways than this. This should be a high-exposure weekend for baseball; don't make the teams look like anything other than themselves (i.e., the Cubs in blue and red, the Giants in black and orange). Say what you will about George Steinbrenner but at least he never would have let The Glorious New York Yankees dress in pink or olive green or Little League uniforms.

I have been scanning Fanatics all day to pick up new Cubs stuff, and I am considering the green stuff.

The Independence Day uniforms are pretty sweet, though

Mine too. But I have to accept that the teams I like don't wear green.

I know right. When I worked as a cashier in high school, it was a dream job. They put me behind the service desk balancing drawers, and the old ladies couldn’t believe that I was doing it without a calculator. I loved green stuff that much. My lawn looks awesome right now.

I bleed Cubbie blue, but I still enjoy them in those caps. It’s ok to have fun.

I don't care if civilians wear them but the promotional uniforms look stupid on players.

Imagine Mickey Mantle being made to wear a pink Yankees uniform. You can't.

I don't mind the hats, but the jerseys are atrocious.

It's a nice sentiment, but really just a money grab or marketing ploy. We could do without them.

Did you notice they took the tomahawks off the Braves' jerseys so that they wouldn't be accused of supporting the troops while denigrating the indigenous?

Agreed. Nothing more or less than that.

I actually like the Sox' stuff, but the cynical pandering is more than a bit much.

Imagine you can only afford to go to one Cubs game a year (this is not unimaginable these days) and you decide to go over Memorial Day weekend. You want to enjoy all the splendor of Wrigley Field on a warm day and see your beloved Cubs in person, but alas, the Cubs and Giants are both wearing olive green because they're pretending they're in the army. pew-pew-pew!

I wonder if people under the age of 40 care, or even notice. Admittedly even I don't care less any more. But as a White Sox fan, until 1990, temporary uniforms really didn't matter.

yeah because taking in a game in person is all about what uniforms they are wearing....has nothing to do with the players, the stadium, or even the actual game on the field

It is part of it, especially for teams that have any brand equity. If you go to see the Cubs, the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Tigers, you kind of expect them to look like who they are. I mean, the Padres, who gives a shit, they don't know what they're doing, but I would feel like I got a little less than what I paid for if the Cubs weren't dressed as The Chicago Cubs but instead dressed as the Prostate Cancer Awareness Chicago Cubs.

No, I'm going with CH here. It screws with the visual component for a reason of unsure ultimate purpose.

Oh my God they’re trying to make money. What a crime. The real crime is the Cubs having to pay Jason Heyward.

It really does not bother me at all. I kind of liked the uniforms today.

I think it is much ado about nothing.

From something he said to Hawaii in the NHL cup thread

I made fun of HawaiiYou for thinking that having Lil Jon do "Turn Down For What" before a hockey game put the NHL on the cultural vanguard, so RFDC had to throw a brushback pitch to even things up.

Making money off exploiting the death of servicemen ... that's a hard pass from me.
