My favorite restaurant burger is the umami burger (with mushroom duxelle, togarashi mayo, bacon, smoked gouda) from BopNGrill.

I just had that for the first time last week. It was very good, but maybe a little too rich. I ended up not finishing the final 1/3 of it.

Hvae you tried Red Hot Ranch?

Actually no...I had not even heard of them until now. Will have to check them out.

Same, except a small amount of bread crumbs as well...almost like making a meatball without the Italian seasonings. Then grill, cheddar, onions, Heinz 57 Steak Sauce (only actual use for it)

Grilling those onions? I like those with some Swiss cheese. Haven't used Heinz 57 sauce in years, might try some on a burger this summer.

I'd say it's debatable. If I had a choice of my favorite steak or favorite burger for my last meal, I'd have to think about it. The thing is, in my opinion I make a better burger than any restaurant -- but I cannot make a steak as well as the best steakhouses (mainly due to equipment and their access to prime beef).

Damn, that sounds good. Might try that tonight w/ some onion.

Depends on how much time I have...dinner after work, probably not, because I have 2 kids that are screaming for food ASAP...weekends, definitely...like them both ways, but when I do grill them, its either in bacon fat or butter with some garlic tossed in

That was my grandmother's go-to approach for making fried meatballs, she'd make them about 10/pound and everybody who didn't know her secret would rave at how fluffy they were.

Read this thread yesterday and happened to be traveling south on Western. I stumbled upon the hamburger Oasis RHR by accident. 2072 N Western for those who may not know. Burger is cooked similar to a Steak and Shake burger only better. Fries are also excellent. A double is a must.

 RHR is best bang for your buck burger in the city.

For a hipster Au Cheval burger without the 2-3 hour wait I recommend Little Bad Wolf on Bryn Mawr between Ashland and Clark. Eets goot

Thanks for tip. That's within range for a quick trip. I still like the BRG burger joint Telegram Sam is associated with, Irving Park location if I am looking for a fancy burger, fries and shake/beer. Just don't get out west of Cicero much at present.

From what I can gather, Shake Shack grew in popularity largely because it was faster and cheaper than the expensive restaurant options in NYC, while also being of higher quality than true fast food, and the terrible water dogs sold on the street and the grossly overrated family of Papaya (insert name) hot dog options there. The rest of the country ended up far surpassing them with any number of chains that do a burger that is superior. It also became overrated because "take thing in NYC that is popular, and export it to other cities" and then all the locals are like "OH, THIS CAME FROM NYC, LET'S SEE WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT?" which is why you got things like the terrible CRUMBS bakeries that eventually people realized weren't that good.

The shakes are pretty good but the burger isn't worth it unless you are desperate. I'd rather have Wendy's and obviously Five Guys or Culvers.

We got Mariano's pub burgers this weekend and grilled them. They are really greasy but were damned good. Had avocado, bacon, a fried egg, white cheddar and grilled onions on it. Highly recommend.
