Anderson has had a great road trip. In the 30gsmes before that, he hit .230 with a .291 OB%. I don't want him to fail because he plays for my favorite baseball team, but it's very clear that defensively he is terrible and he doesn't hit consistently enough to be an everyday SS on a championship team.

Its dumb to negatively or positively isolate statistics. He's had a good offensive season, I can make Mike Trout look bad if you let me pick and choose when to look at his track record.

Other than walking and hitting home runs more than previously for him there is no stat that shows having a good season offensively. A .300 obp is not remotely good. He has many great tools, but he does nothing consistently well. He’s a guy who kills you whole you wait for him to put it together.

Anderson has been doing well recently. Hopefully he figured it out offensively, but he does need to move somewhere else on defense.

His walk rate is 300% higher than it was last season. That is an absurd leap. His batting average on balls in play is .264, but with his speed, it should be in the .330 to .350 range. That’s why his OBP is only .307 when it should be north of .350. And shockingly enough, he’s holding his own in defensive metrics because of his range. He judges the ball off the bat quite well. He botches a good amount of routine plays, but what are gonna do.

I got used to telling everyone that he sucks, but he’s starting to baffle me a bit. I did not have him as a core member of the team entering this season.

He’s absolutely horrendous defensively. If there are metrics out there saying he isn’t they don’t match in game performance and can’t be trusted.

It's true that your perception of him is punished by his range. Not saying he's any good defensively, but he's better than you'd think.

He has a higher dWAR than Baez.

Too many shit throws, even with the nice range. He’s definitely a second baseman.

Better than I think is still awful and he’s awful. Don’t care to argue the degree in which he’s awful.

He’s just not a shortstop. Let’s not waste any more years after this trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Rodon threw another good game tonight. He might actually make his next start with the big club. Shocking

Right on schedule. They said about June 1 nine months ago

I’m absolutely stunned he didn’t have any setbacks. Maybe this was the wake up call he needed.

I thought they said April originally and then pushed it back

Just another in the long list of White Sox items that Keyser has been wrong about.

Best take on Anderson's season so far I've read. I think a better defensive first baseman would help him out a lot.

He's tracking to have around a 3.4 WAR season which is more than respectable, though certainly not superstar caliber. I'd prefer to have a superior defense-no offense guy at short like Nick Ahmed over a guy who is primarily an offensive player with shaky defense, but with the way the game is played now, maybe an Ozzie Smith type isn't as valuable as it once was. So many outs are strikeouts and very few players try to hit the ball on the ground. Perhaps defense in the middle infield isn't quite as important as it traditionally has been.

might as well let the season play out and see what the numbers are. however they taught him and Davidson how to take a walk is pretty amazing. always thought that was pretty much impossible to change.

you can never figure out baseball.

Our hitting instructors come from Oakland. They have ball/strike drills and have had success. That being said, I'm as shocked as anybody about Anderson.

No reason to not let him play out this season, but I don't necessarily trust things like range factor. He makes a ton of stupid mistakes, and he doesn't get on base that often. I don't care what his BABip "should be".

In Davidson's case I think it's just pitchers trying to avoid his prodigious power. It's not like if you lose him you have to face some giant bat in the White Sox order. You can afford to work around him.

Anderson's increase in walks is much more impressive. I have no concerns about his offense. He'll be a strong offensive shortstop if he can play the position. That's a big if. I've never seen a shitty middle infielder drastically improve defensively.

He's in the positive in dWAR. He's still a couple years away in development for that position. I think you have to cut him some slack because he didn't play organized baseball until junior year in HS. The brain farts and shitting the bed on routine plays will minimize with experience.

Davidson has cut down on his swings outside the zone from 33% to 23% which is tremendous.

Feet are the most important tool a SS has and Timmy has great feet. Maybe the best feet in the league (though that Lindor fella is pretty good) and you can't teach feet.

Feet leads to the hands, hands lead to the arm. 1.Feet 2. hands 3. arm. Hands and arm don't do any good if the feet can't get in position to field the ball.

Timmy is getting better everyday and he will continue to get better.
