Frustration with defensive miscues is not the same as not supporting a young player. No one is suggesting booing or benching him.

Tim Anderson discusses moving to the outfield:

Quote:
“I’m going to just keep working at shortstop, and it’s going to be hard to move me off there. But you know it is what it is. Like I said, an athlete can play anywhere.”

When asked how long it would take to adjust to hypothetical life as a center fielder, Anderson smiled and said it can be done in “one day.”

Also of note- Keith Law says the Sox will take Brady Singer at 4.

Keith Law thinks there will be three teams with a worse record than the Sox at the end of the year?

Watch The Pitcher

In general, though, when you watch a runner dust himself off after stealing second, you may want to cut the catcher some slack. You may think that the mano y mano battle is the basestealer vs. the catcher, but the guy stealing the base knows differently.

"It has nothing to do with the catcher," said Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Gose, who finished second in the minors last year with 77 stolen bases. "It's on the pitcher and his times."

Still though, you have guys who are consistently over the break-even point of 33%. Yadier Molina being the gold standard for active players at 40% for his career, but also Sal Perez, Buster Posey, James McCann, Yan Gomes, Matt Wieters, JT Realmuto, Wellington Castillo, Tucker Barnhart, etc. Russell Martin and Wilson Ramos both at 31%.

A strong, accurate arm is one of the prerequisites for the position IMO.

Much of it is on the pitcher, of course. But you have to be able to make up for it.

I agree with the accuracy part. Arm strength is down the list for me. Durability, flexibility, footwork and strong hands are much more important.

Eloy hit his 10th HR, Collins walked 3 times, Adams threw the shit out of hit and Rick Hahn peed sitting down.

Does anyway really give a shit about that? This team is awful and will be awful next year and the year afterward. Reinny will not spend a cent of money to improve their ability to compete. I am still convinced that Reinny wants to move this team to Vegas for his kid. It would be a perfect exit for him when he croaks namely to fuck Sox fans in the ass.

This is preposterous.

According to fangraphs:

15% BB = Excellent
12.5% BB = Great
10% BB = Above Average

So Zack is up over 25%. 52 walks as of May 31. Frank Thomas would be proud.

Out of curiosity, did Collins start hitting better when Eloy was inserted into the lineup?

He couldn’t possibly hit worse. He was hitting around .053 after the first couple weeks of the season. He had no where to go but up.

Plate discipline should transfer well to the majors. If Collins can hit around .250 that's a really valuable offensive catcher. I heard Steve Stone say that he was good at framing, and handling young pitchers for whatever that's worth.

Sox would absolutely draft another third baseman: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20180 ... irst-round

I’m in favor of this. He plays 3rd but you have flexibility with corner OF slots, 1B, DH, etc. Just grab the best power prospect available and call it a day. We’re set up nicely with pitching after the Sale, Eaton, and Quintana trades.

Hopefully. Still need to see those guys succeed in the big leagues. The Sox have been able to develop pitching though.

Singer is the boring but unimpeachable pick. Anyone complaining about him is crazy, but I won't be super enthused. Same way with Madrigal.

They'd really have to do something retarded to fuck this up, and there's no indication they'll do that. The Sox do not try to outsmart everyone in the draft.

Who would constitute a fuck up? It's tough to say right after the draft.

Forcing a pick like Gorman because they think they need a 3B.

On the Burger is done train? That pick looks pretty awful at this time. One blow-up season at Missouri State, but clearly not a great athlete or even in shape.

I’m just inherently skeptical of taking pitchers so high in the draft unless it’s a no doubt can’t miss type like Strasburg, or someone with an all-world slider like Rodon (which hasn’t worked thus far, and speaks to the risk involved).

Burger was actually a great pick. The guy is unscoutably stupid, it happens. He could really swing the bat.
