Edzo said to box the 5/6/7...hope you listened. I just wish I'd had Good Magic across the board.

Bravazo was 6th. I had Justify to win, too. The model was right.

Good effort by Good Magic.

Horrendous conditions for a horse race.

Yes, any time there are 20 horses in a race it is a bit absurd.

It's amazing how 20,000+ foals are born every year and all the "wonder horses" somehow happen to find their way to the barn of one guy.

Is he built to win the next two for the crown?

That horse ran the first four furlongs in 45 and change on a shit track going ten panels and in deep stretch he was under a hand ride and pulling away. It's like Barry Bonds. Just idiotic.

Funny... as a non-Horse aficianado, I told my dad the same thing yesterday. What are the odds that with all the horses in the world, one guy wins a good percentage of the time?

Well, it's just like anything else. He isn't the only one lighting them up. Neither were Bonds or Armstrong. It's just that some guys have the best stuff. It isn't coincidence that this asshole kills so many horses.

I was under the impression horse racing had really cooled it with the juicing with the realization that all it takes is one big clusterfuck of over-roided horses being euthanized after some grisly pileup on live TV to pretty much put an end to their sport.

I wouldn't consider steroids to be "juicing" in horse racing. It's pretty standard, especially with fillies and mares. In fact, they were legal in all jurisdictions until some bad press over Big Brown getting Winstrol. Some of these mares come off the track after tough careers and they're so masculine you would expect to find a cock and balls between their legs. They often have trouble getting in foal immediately after retiring from the track. I'd much prefer to buy the exquisite colt out of the unraced full sister to the hard raced champion than the same horse from the champion herself.

But American racing is rife with performance enhancing drugs and I'm certain Justify was racing yesterday on whatever Baffert could give him, particularly EPO or whatever designer blood builder he uses in his program. A horse racing on hay, oats, and water simply can't run four furlongs in 46 and then run the lead out over an additional 3/4 of a mile bouncing on his toes like he's ready to race another two miles while looking like he just woke up from a nap. It's absurd. Almost as absurd as what Arrogate did in Dubai.

But the American public thinks this clown is a some kind of hero. And what can the racing establishment do about it? It's no different than when Mark and Sammy were "saving" baseball.

How the hell does anyone think Baffert is a hero? He looks like a supervillain who has created some sort of super horse that is 1/5 jaguar, 1/5 mosquito, 1/5 chamelion, and 1/5 Venus fly trap.

Both. The other 1/5 is Baffert.

I think Justify is a great horse, but it makes it hard to judge. It's no different than Bonds or Armstrong. That was certainly the most impressive Derby in a long time.

How big of difference is Justify from Secretariot? I know 4 seconds but ones dry the other in 6"mud.

That's the problem. It can't just be that one trainer has a "new Secretariat" every year.

Also, I'm not complaining because a horse I didn't bet won. I actually had myself set up in gimmicks with my key horses to a point where I was able to hedge with Justify on top and I wound up catching the tri a few times. It's not like I refuse to bet Bob Baffert. He's part of the game. But I'm not some cold hearted gambler. I love horses. They're beautiful animals. They deserve better. And it makes me mad to see that white haired buffoon playing to the cameras every other year when he's nowhere near the horseman that guys like Shug McGaughey or Frankie Brothers are.

Racing has a lot of problems. Partnerships have destroyed harness racing. When the same five guys own every horse it kind of undermines competition. You're starting to see it now with the thoroughbreds, albeit not quite to the same degree just yet. But you had Winstar controlling 1/5 of the top 20 Derby horses. It's not about sportsmanship and my colt beating your colt. Now it's about making stallions. It would be like if the same three guys owned all the teams in the NL Central and their main goal was figure out the best way to sell the most advertising. Who gives a fuck which team wins?
