I've had high school teams with better infields than displayed by the White Sox yesterday. Anderson is setting the short-stop position back to Abner Doubleday times.

My goodness, and that "line-up"? Come-on. Its not like the Red Sox has some kind of wonderful line-up on their team but they do know how to play and certainly have a very good pitching staff. But the White Sox are giving the other team like 30-31 outs a game.

This makes no sense. But I'll take it. But the broadcaster should be smacked. Palk Smash?!? Lining up with the cheesy Jeff Joniak isn't a net positive.

Don’t be afraid of the cybermetrics. It tells us a lot of interesting shit. Pitch values, for instance.

Fastball: 5.0 (2018), 3.7 (2017)
Pitch Representation: 60%

That’s a good fastball. Not great, but he’s inducing a lot of weak contact because guys aren’t sizing it up too well.

Slider: 1.3 (2018), -0.1 (2017)
Pitch Representation: 20%

It’s a major league slider, and he’s getting better with it, but it’s barely above average.

Changeup: -2.4 (2018), -3.7 (2017)
Pitch Representation: 15%

Below average, but not heinous.

He throws a curveball 5% of the time, not much to talk about there.

Overall, he’s a better pitcher than he was last year, but not by much. He does not have an effective 3rd pitch, which is an absolute necessity. And his #2 pitch isn’t all that exciting.

Let’s hope for continued improvement on his secondary pitches.

He just keeps pitching well.

Lot of hitting them where they ain't, Boston leaving about 50 guys on base, plus some breaks. Also, that was a nice 0-2 pitch to Palka in the 9th. 2 of the 3 games were 2 of the best games I've watched all year.

Sox 13-14 since the final game of the Cubs series. I thought then it was a big win and a morale booster. The Cleveland series was a total downer but other than those 3 games, it's been some decent baseball over that 27 game stretch.

12-12 over their last 24. At least I don't expect them to get clobbered every time out. Just entertain me with a few series wins here and there until some of the younger kids come up is all I ask at this point.

Palka and Covey look like they could be players for this team.

Sox system loaded with talent and competition breeds excellence. When you see guys like Palka and Covey, you know for certain, at the very least, that a fire has been lit upon their ass.

two cast-offs from other organizations. not sure what that means, if anything.

It means that sometimes a lottery ticket hits.

Jose Quintana was a throwaway from the Yankees.

If some of this secondary guys like Covey and Palka turn out to be good they could be pretty decent by the end of the season. Right now the starting pitching is really starting to shape up, and the bullpen has settled down. An almost .500 stretch while giving away almost 1/3 of their outs with the outfield they are putting out their everyday.

If they add a couple of competent major league hitters to this roster they are pretty good. The defense remains an issue. And I miss earlier in the year Moncada. He's been pretty bad since he came back from the DL.

The memo that competition breeds excellence has yet to reach Moncada's desk. That's fine, he deserved to get a corner office on the top floor. But at some time, and very soon, he's going to have start earning that office. There's a nonchalance about the kid that's troubling. Mainly, the errors and the strike 3 calls.

To me, Moncada really looks like he is going to figure things out and when he does, he could be an all-star. I think that he is getting some good advice from Abreu and is willing to listen which in itself is important. He's only 22 years old.

I don't think that he looks terrible. I like his swing. He just needs more experience. He will certainly play winter ball and has good guidance with Stevenson and Abreu. .230 is not bad for a 22 year old kid being force fed in the major league

It ain't good, either.

Also, Stevenson is I-55. Todd Steverson is the Sox hitting coach.

Yeah, for whatever reason, I cannot remember that guy's name though I met him a couple of times in spring training when he was with the A's.
