I don't know why Goff is mad about this. He agreed to it. So all he got was 30 days paid after he was fired.

He's mad because he's 90 days away from being an uber driver in a range rover.

Who knows, maybe that is the way CBS made severance for talent (or some talent) a known cost. Instead of having to fire a guy and negotiate severance and then hope they don't sue you for breach, just keep the guy off the air like you both agreed you could and then void the contract after paying him for 30 days he wasn't working.

Right. And for Goff it was a first time contract. Or maybe it was his 2nd since he got back to the SCORE. But he was thrilled to get a shot at a big time. Like you said, it's just a way to write in a severance. Goff was gonna sign anything.

I guarantee you Bernstein doesn't have such a thing in his contract. He gets the full boat if they fire him. Same with Mac. They have agents reading shit and protecting them against "The Man"

Goff, at the time, probably was thinking, "I ain't paying no agent 5% when I can do this shit by myself." And he never thought he would be fired. So he didn't think this detail mattered even if he did read it.

I know this feels good for Goff. But this was bad for him. Bad move

Look at Mac. He's been with the SCORE 3 times.

Goff could have got his ass back to the SCORE. Maybe. But when you call your boss "dirty" and "low class" for this money thing there is no coming back from that. And it wasn't dirty. Goff agreed to it.

Granted, DeCastro is an old white guy so maybe he'll retire and Goff will have another shot with a new white guy in 4 or 5 years.

The good news for Goff is the guys his age will soon be management. That's how Goff gets his ass back to the SCORE. His friends start to be suits. I think Baldy McGrindy is a guy that might run the SCORE one day. He'll hire Goff's ass back.

But Goff said he's had meeting with ESPN 1000. No way they hire him after his recent bitching on podcasts.

While I agree that Dan McNeil has a very punchable face,
after doing an image search, I'm not sure Sam Fels should be the one to point that out.

I think he meant Parkins has a punchable face. The Julie crew really hates Parkins.

I guess that's where the term 'face for radio' comes from, cuz they all pretty much have punchable faces, on 670 at least.

He can get pointers from Herb.

The guys that ran Committed Indian and were popular during the dark days of the Hawks. The Hawks success erased their popularity and them assuming Kane was guilty and their ensuing SJW-themed content has put them on the board's shit list.

Jay Zawaski is at the top of that list

From what I can recall, Zawaski doesn't even have a voice for radio.
He has "Fat Chicago Guy" voice. Mouthbreather.
Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

If that is true then how does he know he was fired for his content. The much more likely scenario and one supported by people with knowledge of the industry is that DeCastro became manager and wanted his guys in mid days (Mc Dick) and afternoon drive (Mc Neil)

been saying this all along

Bernstein is niche radio. They made him the face of the station. It's like a punk band that goes mainstream and allows its work to be used for car commercials

A quarterback or defensive captain I would have gotten, but a long unheard long snapper?

I have to believe that Bernstein had a hand in that as SMART RADIO PLAN would be put into high gear by adding another Duke graduate who hadn't been concussed

Fels was a fucking dork from his youth. He was the kid who would call in to HFC like it was a badge of honor for a 10 year old to listen to sports radio rather than be out doing things 10 year olds are supposed to do. He is now a fucking dork in his fading youth.

The sticking point for Goff seems to be that, according to him, he's the "only" guy at the Score to have had this clause enforced.

He thinks he's been singled out.

That's a pretty terrible contract if they can void it after 30 days of choosing not to schedule you.

Perhaps he is right? On the other hand maybe he also is the only one that gave the impression that he was too rigid to change?

Someone like Bernsie and to a lesser extent survive and thrive because they can be the chameleon. Management says the show is like this now and boom they are like that. Instant evolution. It is like top level car sales person that moves from Mercedes to BMW. He is now with the best and move on.

Goff possibly believed Bernsie's bit was real as it went on for so long and he associated with him. He miscalculated that Bernsie will do whatever it takes to feed the family.

The clear answer already cited is probably the right one. Bernsie and Mac use agents and I believe Spiegs did as well. I do not guess Goff did or else he should sue him.

He got the axe too soon. But if that show were to run its course, the end would have come anyway. It wasn't fun radio. And apparently, Goff doesn't feel like anything needed to change, so I suspect it would just have gone further down the wormhole.

and this was the guy bragging about receiving his "5 figure check" when he got paid the severance. Sorry, you don't get to brag about it on Twitter and then cry about it a few weeks later after you realize you got hosed.

can someone post a summary of this thread? I don't want to read 5 pages.

goff went on what we can only imagine as leery's blow off podcast.

he complained about :

- Danny being the reason the show "failed" yet brought up how successful it was
- Terry lying about the show staying on 1 topic too long even though thats the consensus of how the show felt
- Decastro is racist and never told him things weren't good

Things he doesn't talk about

- Taking away fun content (TOB/WYC/FF/etc)
- complaining continually about people talking about their kids and then mentioning his kid every 5 minutes
- while social justice has its place in talk radio and even sports radio, you can't continually talk sports through the lens of social justice every day
- abandoning what made him popular with B&B listeners and instead parroting danny in being condescending and combative constantly with callers.

- about new job prospects

- basically waiting on chicago. the offers he said were piling up are not apparently
- has offers out of town but would have to leave his kid (sounds like a healthy relationship) and that being a father of a black male makes him a unique talent.

the vibe of the whole things sounds like a broken Goff. on one hand you kind of feel bad but then you remember how bullet proof he thought he was and how douchey he'd become to his detractors and you stop feeling bad.

But he still doesn't talk about any of the blame being on his shoulders. there didn't seem much talk about what he did wrong.

No, it had to be when it was, because once the Cubs start playing lots of day games (isn't April traditionally night-game-heavy?), there's no longer a ratings problem in afternoons, and you can't justify the change. Then you're stuck with Range Rover Radio until November.
