my old truck was $336 a year for liability only

The 8 year old acura i just bought for $11k is $680 a year for liability only

Why? It doesnt make sense. the chances of me causing an accident in this car are far less than the truck....

its a honda. im actually surprised people call this a luxury brand. take off the plastic panels and it literally says honda all over them

but its a nice car. 2010 MDX. i like it a lot more than i thought i would. tows the same weight as an F150. better gas mileage than my ranger but has twice the horsepower. its a well designed machine. and again, i like it because it really is a simple honda when you get to the nuts and bolts of it. they just made it look pretty.

I have never been a fan of Acura's, but like all Honda products, they have their fans. And yes, there is not much difference between Acura's and Honda's.

I assume they have some calculus that with the Acura you a male would tend to drive faster or more aggressively than the truck. Failing them actually having real evidence on safety etc.

that must be it... even though the truck was WAY more fun to drive recklessly. the acura is all time 4 wheel drive with traction control. no matter what you try to do it will correct it. it has 3 electronic clutches that can separate power to any wheel, and a yaw sensor thats tied to the ABS system. when i bought it and had that last snowfall, i tried to punch it and fish tail... it started to but then the anti lock brakes went insane, applying pressure to a single wheel at a time at crazy fast patterns... like corner to corner than front to back... it felt really weird, but it stopped the skid immediately. i was really surprised how well it worked. in my truck, once the back end breaks loose in the snow that's it- you just hang on and it just flings around with no stopping it.

also, it's fly by wire throttle... so you cant spin the tires taking off... you smash the pedal to the ground and it only applies what it wants... its clearly based off an algorithm because sometimes i can trick it and it gets close to breaking the tires loose, but it never does. again, my truck, stomp on it and i could roast them.

so yea, acura is faster and would destroy the truck in a race, but only because it does all the work for you... making it actually boring to drive. i think they tried this same type of 4 wheel 3 clutch system in F1 and the drivers scrapped the idea because it made the cars too easy to drive.

is that the only metric they use? what about the fact it weighs 800lbs more than my truck did, and really isnt that much faster 0-60?

Do you shop around for car insurance? Or have you more or less rolled with what's been working?

Recent renewal came and it's $1,350 for a SUV Collision/Liability/Underinsured/Uninsured. (No moving violations in over 10 years)

From cursory research that price is fair. Is that somewhat in the range you're paying for in Chicago-area?

Car insurance is largely based off of the pure HP number. It is archaic.

Though I guess I benefit from it.
