It's been eight years since the release of AC/DC's last album 'Stiff Upper Lip' but a new album is on the way.

At the band's official website. AC/DC has announced that "the waiting is almost over! AC/DC fans can expect the band's next album of new material sometime later this year. The band are currently recording in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien and long time audio engineer Mike Fraser".

Undercover can also add another piece of news. Plans for a major world tour are underway to coincide with the release of the album and the tour will been announced shortly.

The word is the album is currently in mixing now. Agreed though, they need to produce something.

An ALBUM is a collection of songs. It doesn't need to be on vinyl to be an album. A compact disc also is an ALBUM. Always happy to help, Twister.

I wouldn't mind seeing them in concert again.
Hopefully they will have a better opening act.
Slash's Snake Pit was just ear-piercingly and mind-numbingly bad.

The descent of Brian Johnson's vocal chords first became noticeable on "Fly On the Wall". It was tolerable until "Razor's Edge" where from that point on it's just too painful for me to listen to. Great band and one of my all time favs, but I just can't listen to him anymore.

I'm betting a high percentage of vocalists lose it shortly after 40, maybe sooner. Johnson is 60. I saw the wacky Aussies their last stop in Chicago, spring of '01, and they remain one of the most high energy, tightly produced acts from their genre. And BJ never was a velvetty throated crooner. He's a belter. I love 'em. Wear comfortable shoes at an AC/DC shoes because there is no reason to sit down.

Wondering what will inspire my landmark 500th post. Any ideas?

When the throat starts to go on a singer, the easiest way to cope is to tune down a step. Zeppelin did so for the reunion gig they did this past December, and while the funky tunings sound a little wierd, it was definitely the best way to go to accomodate Plant's voice. Lots of Classic Rock bands I've seen have tuned down- U2, The Who, Jethro Tull..

Yeah, with that bluegrass chic. He had those dates commited so he xnayed any chance of a Zeppelin tour.

Plant and Allison Kraus? Keep it.

Man..I feel like I've missed out on so much in life. I've never been golfing & I've never seen an AC/DC live. They're are definitely two things I want to do before I die. Maybe I should've had this as a new subject...top five things to do before you "kick the bucket".

One of my first concert's ever was AC/DC. Lied to my parents to go with a friend and his older brother. I still remember the stage opening up, a giant missile coming out of the stage with Angus Young atop it. HEATSEEKER!

I found this on Youtube... boy, that brought back memories!

Mac,
I agree that most singers lose something after 40 (if not before) and that he's a belter not a singer, but bad is bad and he sounds BAD. One of my favorite bands and I know instrumentally, they still kick ass, but Johnson has nothing left in the tank... the sounds coming out of his mouth are just painfull on the ear drums. At his age and long before, the vocal chords require some TLC. Last I saw he's still smoking... not the best way to protect the assets.

There's a few of the older rockers that can still sing the paint off the wall, but these are the ones that take meticulous care of themselves.
