Is it OK not to like them on 4th of July?

I watched the fireworks show last night in my town, which takes place very near my house. I can watch the show from my backyard. That's as much as I want to see or hear them. Every year there is an invasion of my neighborhood by all the people who can't park where they're supposed to park, and they leave their garbage behind, just throwing it on everyone's lawn. This I can tolerate, because it's once a year and the show only lasts 1/2 hr. until about 9:30 p.m. or so. But what I have a problem with are my idiot neighbors who think they are entitled to shoot their bottle rocks over my house onto my property or blast their M-80s at 10:30 p.m. or later right next to my house, scaring my dog.

Why do people have to be such assholes? There is no right or entitlement to shoot fireworks in Illinois. And it wasn't even July 4th, but July 3rd. That's the thing that is so dumb about it all. They can't even get their date right.

I just asked my 33 year old son for a pic of his fingers while he still posses all of them...

He only sent me a pic of one of them.

Guess which one?

I'm with you IKE. I'm always happy when this fucking day is over. Last year, we had a clock fall off the wall and break when our hillbilly neighbor blasted a 1/4 stick of dynamite.

I always find it ironic we celebrate not being a war torn region by making it sound like s war torn region

I could live without them. I played with them a fair bit as a kid and had a few close calls. I have no innerest in doing them myself.

did they really ban fireworks in illinois? I remember my trip last year was around the 4th and I thought I'd go to the fireworks show above the lake that use to happen always of the night of the 3rd. But nothing. I think someone said it was cancelled a long time ago.

Cancelled due to rain. Kind of a nice summer storm, though.

You would think the police would be all over writing people tickets for fireworks.

I don't care if it rained or not. 1am is WAY too late to be setting off fireworks.

founding fathers specifically said that the day should be celebrated with fireworks

Last couple years we've gone to the beach to watch them, got weary of hearing about where everybody's kid is going to college next year. Last night we just drove out to Gene and Jude's for hot dogs, caught a lot of driveway and alley displays on the way.

For some reason, I'd like Quad City Pete to weigh in on this issue.

You left out the part where they said only until 10 and not around dogs or revolutionary war veterans

I don't really understand the need to shoot them off all day long, but have never really cared that people do either. However, that changed yesterday. One of my "neighbors" (not direct, but a little bit down the street) was setting off the mortars that do nothing but create a deafening explosion. In between they'd throw M-80's (or whatever the giant firecrackers are called) into the street. 3pm until around midnight, just kept launching them. I'll admit that the dark side of me was hoping to hear screaming followed by ambulance sirens.

Fireworks don't bother me. Almost all dogs are scared shitless of them, so thats annoying but its also only a couple days out of the year. Its about respect and common courtesy, though. You wouldn't blast music or run a lawnmower at 1am or 6am if you were a decent person, so why would you feel it's ok to have mini explosions in your yard at odd hours? Holiday or not, that is flat out disrespectful.
