The Score's best two eras would probably have to be 1992-1999 with the original crew and then 2009-2014 when they had M&H/Mac/B&B. Boers & Bernstein themselves never anchored any golden age of the Score; it was only when Mac went from their competition to their lead-in that they put 1000 down for the count.

The ideal lineup would have been:

Mully and Hanley- Vanilla but tried and true; ideal morning show

McNeil and Spiegel- Launching Speigel was a mistake; a McNeil/Spiegel show would be a comfortable, entertaining midday show

Bernstein and Parkins- Pair the two best talents on the show to dominate the afternoon time slot

Holmes and Goff- Either completely launch Goff and give him a soft landing in a lower profile, evening slot

All of these shows would have beaten their competition at ESPN.

Yeah, a solo version of the 2011-2017 on-air version of Bernstein would be godawful. 40% NBA, 40% SJW, 20% cooking recipes from stuff sold only at Williams-Sonoma and Whole Foods.

I like DAC's lineup, pairing Bernstein with Parkins would have reigned Bernstein in without subjecting us to a lightweight like McDoink. But I doubt Spiegel would ever work with Mac again.

Spiegal sucked, Mac is the best fit for Parko and keep him off that sjw crap.

In the off season move Murph to Weekends to talk about Bears football.

I feel like not even Score management liked Murph. He was doing well in mornings and then got kicked back to evenings to make room for North, then moved up to middays, did well there, and got taken off the station altogether to make room for Mac.

He is grating. He is terrible. He is lucky to be on the air for 3 hours once a week as it is.

I liked solo, weekend Bernsie when he first started at the station. He could do legitimate sports talk that (at the time) was not stat-driven but was often silly, fun, and VERY different than he is now. He became more antagonistic towards athletes, coaches, and listeners after he was paired with Boers.

Yes, he and Sweica were both weekend morning hosts around then. He was much sillier on Sunday mornings, and talked a lot of baseball. Stuff like how Ivan Calderon was one of his favorite players. I used to catch parts of the show either to or from golfing.

Murph is where he is now because of bad actors trying to screw him. But also it's his fault if the stories of him abusing his producers and other things are true.

Weren't Murph and Hood a partnership once? I liked that show. Hood should never been off the score. I consider him like one of the originals like North and Jiggs. His late night show I still have fond memories of. But he's doing well at AM 1000 so good for him.

Bernstien solo is really bad. Might as bring back Telender then and his Peoria stories. Although I did like Talender when I was there.

I remember Murph was obsessed with Jacque Jones at one point when he was with the Cubs and constantly ripped on him to the point where it seemed to get personal and he started calling Jones a "loser." Murph had Steve Stone on and he was fed up with Murph, said Jones was one of x number of people in the world good enough to play baseball and the major league level, was paid handsomely for it, and that doesn't seem like something a loser would do. Then he essentially told Murph that a real loser is someone who gets so upset about a player, who he has no personal relationship with, that he makes it personal.

Anyone else recall that? Am I remembering it correctly?

You remember correctly, for the most part. Murphy hated Jones and Stone was his usual smarmy, condescending self.

Murph was right. Jones was awful and Stone was a douche.

Murph had a lot of self inflicted wounds. But the fued with McNeil and Boers wasn't. That was plain bullying by the HFC. Unless there was something else we don't know about publically.

I remember Murph long back whining about Willie Wilson when he came to the Cubs. How he was unhappy and a discontent. Well Willie was use to winning w/ KC, had a WS under his belt, all he knew was winning. Of course when you get traded from the mountain top to a bunch of losers like those early 90 cubs teams were you'd sure be pissed.

But saying all that, Murph was and still is the best listen when it comes to JUST SPORTS, and BASEBALL, and CUBS BASEBALL. Same w/ Fred.

Bernstein was smitten with Stone, that's why. When Stone was on w/ Bernstein , Bernstein acted like a giddy kid. Stone loved the attention and idol worship.

Murph is just alright with me.

One of Murph's most memorable shows on the Score was the 'BEAR DOWN CHICAGO BEARS' show where he had fans calling in to sing the song and he was defining the meaning of each line of the song.

Classic radio. I hope the Score has it somewhere.

A Bernstein solo show may work but definitely not in a major market in morning drive time.

I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to any of those shows. Maybe in the car while driving but if that were the Score lineup I would be listening to podcasts heavily.
