I am happy they are struggling but I would have preferred they kept him all year. No need to give them a chance for a team spark. Let that disarray fester. Lots of fans want Oquendo to be the guy

Just put Molina as manager.

He has had a strange deal there. Fans loved him as a player but most wanted Oquendo to get that job so they were skeptical of him. He followed Larussa who had so much success. That added to the pressure. The last couple years people wanted him fired. But in reality they have not had the horses to win as Cardinal fans want. Matheny cannot overcome offensive and bullpen problems.

I heard some national writer who said that Girardi has a great home life now and when he comes back, it's going to be with a team that's ready to win right now. The Cards don't really fit that description.

I don't know man. They have a pretty good minor league system. I think they could be back in win now mode rather quickly.

Matheny was a perfect fit to take over for Larussa.

Basically a younger version of Larussa.

I think the fan base is split over Oquendo, the students of the game (and there are many among Cardinals fans) want Oquendo, and the rednecks (of which there are also many) will want another red-ass redneck white guy.

Girardi will have the pick of the litter if/when a position is available that he wants. My guess is that he has already had the conversation with Mrs G as to where they are willing and not willing to go? Joe has been in the league long enough to know the good teams/cities he prefers. However, that MLB Network gig is not too bad...

Some of you guys have it right. But let me put some more light on the realities: Forget the speculation on Oquendo and Ozzie...the Cardinals don't employ Latin or Black managers, GM's or Head Scouts. That's not opinion, it's fact. This Shildt guy will keep the job.

There's truth that Fowler put the final nail in the Matheny coffin. Here's what happened last night:

Runners on 2nd and 3rd, no outs. Hard grounder to 3rd and Fowler gets caught about 4 feet off the bag. Instead of continuing to home to start a rundown so the other runners can advance he runs back to 3B immediatly, goes out of the baseline, gets called out and without having to make a tag the 3Bman throws to 1st to double up the hitter, Pham.

It was a jaw dropping thing to watch. It was truly sickening. More proof that the rich SOB's on this team really don't give a damn.

I don't blame Matheny for being the worst manager I've seen since Ken Boyer...I blame the GM that hired and supported his sorry ass these long six years. He still has his job. That's too bad for so-called Cardinal nation.

Matheny inherited a World Series caliber team and gradually let it go to hell. But as I said, it's Mozelic's fault that he hired a man with ZERO managerial experience (at ANY level) and quietly tolerated his ineptitude until the fan base just got too loud with their disgust and frustration.
