Well, might as well shoot for the stars for one year. I think the Raptors peaked last year; Lowry is a year older. Loved the line that neither is showing much enthusiasm about the deal.

DeRozan claims there is no loyalty in the game anymore because he was traded. But it was for a guy who forced his way out. NBA execs are fucked these days.

Suck Danny Green had to go but that’s a good return. Pop does it again.

Is Kawhi going fake injuries all year or half-ass it until he can get to LA?

This trade does not make Toronto better one bit.

Pulls off a great move with almost zero leverage.

So I would assume this is an all-in move by Toronto? They're hoping that they make a run to the finals, Kawhi wins a title, and then somehow falls in love with the city? Anything short of a championship and he is definitely one and done.

It kind of is but even if that doesn't happen they're now out of DeRozan's contract and got another expiring with Green which makes a blowup/rebuild much easier.

Yep that is exactly what it is. THey hope in this year after Lebron is gone they can somehow win it all.

Probably not going to happen, but appreciate their willingness to go for it. They were not winning it all with Derozan

I think the blowup happens mid season. I don’t think Kawhi will be a Raptor by March.

I dunno, I think Kawhi has to play and play well. Impact Sports have even less leverage now than the remarkably low amount they had before. The only way I see him being moved again is if Lebron gets pissed and impatient during the season and tells Magic to make a really dumb trade. And even that's unlikely because Magic really doesn't have to listen to him due to his 4 year contract.

And if Leonard does play Toronto's perimeter defense is going to put them in contention to win the East until the very end, even with Hayward and Irving playing for Boston.

I wouldn't think anything needs to be blown up for any team in the East. With LeBron gone, there's no telling how things play out in that conference.

But he only puts them in contention if he’s playing his hardest. I don’t see that as likely this season.

I have a hard time seeing Leonard himself sandbagging and if he does that's gonna create just as many problems for the union as if he tries to sit out entirely.

Why would he not play hard? He's auditioning for a massive contract next summer.

He has no choice but to play hard and play well..unless he wants to make chump change after this season. The best thing he can do is audition for the rest of the league and show he's healthy and not a cancer in the locker room.

There’s almost nothing he can do short of getting injured to sabotage a max contract offer.

I don't think an injury prone Leonard is THAT much better than Derozan right now.

an injured Leonard is worse than Derozan. That's about it.

He can fake an injury all season and get a max deal from the Lakers next summer.

That really is a shame that is true.

It’s pretty true for every sport. If Rodgers or Bryce Harper did the same thing they’re still getting offered enormous money by multiple teams the following offseason.
