what do u think of JD as an analyst?

And compare him to previous analysts, such as dry-throat Brenly, dumbass Joe Carter, and on-point Steve Stone.

do u think he's the right guy for the job in the current Cubs climate?

Steve Stone, Bob Brenly, Jim Deshaies all were very good and added a lot to the enjoyment of the game. I'm really fuzzy on Joe Carter doing Cubs analysis. I remember him being really inexperienced, and could one day have improved over time.

Radio analysts also have been good. Legendary Ron Santo, Keith Moreland and now Ron Coomer.

It's a tough job to critique the team that's indirectly paying your salary, unless you're a big name like Santo. There's only so much they can say.

Moreland was horrible. Santo was more of a mascot, not an "analyst". I'm starting to think that Coomer isn't too bad.

DeShaies is fine.

FINALLY.

Coomdog is great. Can get silly with Pat like Ron and but also has actual thoughts.

I would've loved to grab beers with Grote (if he wasn't dry) and Coomdog on the road.

Deshaies is really good . Took a year or so to settle in but he’s a knowledgeable and informative as they come .

Coomer's PBP led me to automatically turn the game off if I was listening. I've listened to more games this year and he does have good baseball thoughts.

I blame whoever is in charge for that. I don't understand who thought letting an analyst do PBP is a good idea. I've never heard that before.

Never had a real problem with him. I missed Brenly after his departure but that wasn't Deshaies' fault.

I like JD more than Brenly now. I have the MLB package and whenever I watch the Dbacks Brenly doesn't really do anything for me. Very vanilla.

I'm aware it might just be a familiarity thing though.

Have not watched enough TV coverage to say good or bad on JD.

Coomer has grown on me as an color commentator. I think he's pretty good. At the same time, I'm progressively finding Pat Hughes to be an arrogant jagoff.

PBP for Coomer.....different story. PBP or any of the pre and post game by ZZ....that is an automatic PTFB.

Deshaies is too douchy, tries to be too hipster cool like Kasper. Kasper in his weekly segments on XRT with Lin are ultra douchy for reference, anyway, I digress
Deshaies can't carry Vince Lloyd or Lou Boudreau's jock, but, that being said, I don't mind him. The annoying part is how he and Ron Coomer are always introduced as former
"greats" of the game. Deshaies was a middle of the rode journeyman at best, the fact he threw lefty likely kept him around. Coomer and his 1 all star appearance get mentioned
every other sentence  Jesus, Steve Swisher made an all star team in 1976, Coomer was likely just filling out a position, or the only clown from the Twins who was acceptable.

Not a very good announcer. Below replacement level.

Surprised Len is up for carrying all the dead weight.

Arrogant? Really?

Ill have to listen for that because it seems very odd.

Did he happen to espouse a left leaning or inclusive opinion that you guys didn't care for?

I think Deshaies has some type of consecutive strike outrecord.

I like JD. I think he is both funny and informative.

??? No . I listen a lot in the car lately and I’m not thinking he’s as great as I used to. That and his terrrible last out WS call . Left leaning or inclusive ? No he’s smart enough to understand that no one wants to hear that shit and keeps his opinions to himself far as I’ve heard .

JD is cool I guess. I did love me some BB though. Man when he was seeing shitty baseball he was top notch. Dead ass team indeed.

Pat's demeanor has definitely changed since at least the WS win. He makes a lot more of the same grand cliched pronouncements (a PA in the 2nd inning is a "potential key turning point" of the game), and just seems more aloof, and his self-deprecating humor is more "I'm being nice to you, you asshole."

I think that Pat will bow out before the next rebuild, especially since he's had some health challenges with his voice. I also think that if he could make the same coin, Len would actually prefer the radio booth to the TV booth.

As for JD, I don't catch him that often, but I like his sense of humor, and his analysis is usually pretty solid without being trite. He's not nearly as good of a first guesser as prime post Desert Fever Steve Stone, but he's far less of an asshole.

BB has been hampered by having a horrible PBP guy with him in Arizona.

Man Sarge I couldn't disagree more. Now granted I was just a pup when they were broadcasting but I remember Boudreau in particular being brutal to listen to and Lloyd not much better. JD blows the doors off those guys.

Vince was sturdily average for his era. Lou was shit, just a lot of platitudes, and nobody on any team ever sucked.

this is kinda what I was looking for.

trying way too hard to appeal to the hip demographic of the audience.

seems like he's come down to earth a little this year, but the first couple years he was unlistenable. The Cubs were always right and they could do no wrong. I like homer's, but this wasnt homerism. It was too much trying to appeal to a certain hipster crowd.

I don’t mind JD. The TV booth chemistry has improved greatly and with a good product these past 4 seasons it helps. Coomer has grown on me a lot and is probably my favorite cubs radio color guy since Stone did a few games in the early 2000’s with Hughes when Santo was ill. He’s a bit of a goof but affable enough that I end up finding him extremely likable. I listen to a lot more on radio (the game is made for radio in a lot of ways) so I guess that has a bigger impact on me. Hopefully I get rained iut if the fields fir a while and will get to enjoy some tv broadcast soon.

Vince and Boudreau are a passing memory. Kind of like Milo or Dwayne Statts. I remember them but I’m not sure how much I remember them.
