If you dig True Crime podcasts, I highly recommend Unsolved Murders on Parcast...really good, really interesting.

That is a good one; True Crime Garage is another one.

Len lets hope that your posting here is the start of a nice 5 game win streak over the shitbirds from St Louis. Fuck the Cardinals!

Hi All,

Len Kasper here (yes, it's really me). If there is a moderator who can confirm it's me via my registration information, that would be great. I used to occasionally do Cubs.com message board Q&As but that doesn't exist any longer and I've checked this board occasionally just to see what fans are saying outside of the Twitter world. I kinda like the "old school" nature of message boards sometimes. Anyway, if you have any questions or SUGGESTIONS (yes!), let me have 'em. Hope you're all doing well, thanks. Len

What's the closest you've come to being late for the start of a broadcast and how close of a call was it?

What caused you to be late, bad traffic, some type of emergency, too long of a nap, passed out on the shitter, etc.

What's protocol on that, do you call the production team and let them know you're working with a razor thin margin and they need to have a contingency plan?

I would probably pee myself ... with cause, for a change.

The general rule is the .gif below is posted when the offense busts out with enough runs in one inning to put them up at least 6 runs ... not a hard and fast rule, but that's the general idea.

hey len, do you get any attention from broadcast groupies in your travels? is there a colloquialism/term for them akin to "ring rats" in wrestling that's used amongst the players nowadays?

Don't recall the question but on Heyward, this season has been almost EXACTLY the guy offensively the Cubs signed. These numbers are what he was his entire career before he became a Cub. I'm good with that. .

Theo's stated philosophy (which his actions don't necessarily follow) is to pay for future, not past production in free agency. The size of the contract they gave him certainly indicates they were projecting continued growth from a guy who was still only 25 (I think that opt out clause supports that belief as well). Signing the exact guy offensively for that kind of money has to be considered a disappointment...and, of course, we all know being that exact guy has been his best case scenario while with the Cubs.

The Cubs didn't sign him to be the exact guy he was at the age of 25, so the only way you should be good with that is if your expectations were so lowered that decent play is considered maximization of his talent.

My expectations were lowered by his last two years of play with the Cubs. Even last night, I didn't want to see him in key situations. I'll say pleasantly surprised of late and infinitely skeptical is my view of Heyward. He was an absolute waste of money, which will become readily apparent when the Cubs are unable to sign certain big money players down the road in part because of his contract (luxury tax issues).

Take contract entirely out of the discussion, if you had a starting RF with Heyward's production you would continuously be looking to upgrade at that position. Maybe you would be satisfied to stand pat if other positions were more of a priority but that position would always be on your wish list.

Based on this year, there would be no reason to look.

RF might be on my wish list, but a Cubs World Series has been crossed off that list. I will take a World Series Championship TEAM over Sammy Sosa "team" any day,

In the end, this is all that matters...

Right now, dollars per WAR for players signed to FA contracts is over $10M for 1 WAR. Heyward is on pace for 4.0 WAR. He is getting paid less than $40M, so his contract is a value to the Cubs.

Currently, he has the 10th highest WAR for RF.

HEAVILY dependent on the inexact science of defensive metrics at a defensive position that ranks about 6 (maybe 7) out of 9 in defensive priority...but you know that

Also, if you are reintroducing contract back into the discussion, you would have to look at the entirety of the contract

Nope, not this year. His WAR number is mostly from offense.

Seems high given his OPS is only .780.

He has a 1.7 oWAR, and a 2.3 total WAR.

But oWAR + dWAR != WAR

Either way, his 1.7 oWAR is in the top half of MLB for RF.
