if we are assuming it is the MLB, those contracts are agreed to in principal before the draft so everyone is of a same mindset as an inducement

There is no cap in the nfl draft though so there isn’t a concept of underslotting. The nfl literally has a slot value for the 8th pick. This is about the bears wanting a refund if they cut him.

Many of the picks haven't signed ahead of him yet, and the Bears are one of the first teams to report to camp. If he's not signed by Thursday, I'd be concerned.

Imo he's small and I wasn't crazy about the pick..I wanted Nelson(gone) so let's hope this kid is worth it and get him on the field n learn the play book.

i would say poor play or not being able to stay on the field or both is more improtant. Assuming smith gets in camp soon, all it will take is a few "wow" type plays on defense during pre-season and all will be forgotten
