What's funny about Missouri is that it's really not that different from Illinois. St. Louis suburbs are very similar to Chicago suburbs. Take two places that are very similar, change one thing about them and you have a rivalry.

I agree as far as Wilson goes.

But they brang one against the town (Ferguson). It was bullshit the way they were jailing people for fines they could not pay. If Holder could have done this against the cops, he would have.

There is some law in Missouri that if you have a town it has to have it's own police force. So we've created a system where the police basically have to self-fund through bullshit fines. It's a tax more or less because these town and departments could not survive without them.

That has nothing to do with and in no way absolves McCulloch blatantly playing defense attorney in front of the grand jury.

He is in a difficult position to be sure. He has to work with the local police. Honestly in these cases it should almost always be under federal review.

I am not certain specifically what you mean by this reference. So if this is some specific Missouri thing I am missing I pologize in advance.

I remember sitting in Cook County courts years ago many times watching case waiting for a ticket or some crap of mine to be called. Many many times I saw judges assigning jail for people that could not pay their fines. It seemed liek on 2nd or 3rd appearances and it was usually something like 3 days for a $250 fine or something.

Is this not usual for some reason anymore? Do poor people just not pay fines?

How so? To be clear I'm not conceding anything Seacrest said at all but merely focusing on McCulloch's own actions, which were not in any way justifiable outside of cynical political expediency, rather than relitigating the entire case.

I think that they had a similar but more severe system. People have been sitting in county jails around the country for months or years because they couldn't afford a bond that was hundreds or just a couple thousand dollars.

Blatantly playing defense attorney doesn't negate the fact that there was NO case to be brought.

That's a good point about poor people and fines, but this seemed extreme, and apparently they were targeting blacks:

https://www.cnn.com/2015/03/06/us/fergu ... index.html

CNN wrote:
The fines were among the highest of surrounding municipalities. For example, area parking fines ranged from $5 to $100, but Ferguson's parking fine was $102.

A fine for "weeds/tall grass" was $5 in one nearby city, but Ferguson's fine ranged from $77 to $102, the Justice Department found.

The federal government made a forceful conclusion:

"City, police and court officials for years have worked in concert to maximize revenue at every stage of the enforcement process, beginning with how fines and fine enforcement processes are established," the federal report said.

I don't really trust CNN to get anything right, but this seemed to be the story everyone else (and the DOJ) shared.

Except, again, no one was talking about the merits of the case in this thread at all until you rushed in, ascended your pedestal, and helpfully informed everyone of The Way Things Must Be. You're either trying to excuse or justify McCulloch's disgraceful performance or at the very least distract from it.

If there was NO case, there wasn't a trial to help him avoid.

You are either mentally ill, or the most blatantly insincere poster on this site.

Unless of course you think prosecutors should indict people without cause.

You haven't disputed once up to this point whether McCulloch actually played a role more akin to defense attorney rather than prosecutor in front of the grand jury and whether that was an abdication of his responsibilities or completely justifiable. If you'd like to actually discuss whether that was the case or not, feel free, but nothing you've posted actually contradicts my initial post. You've merely tried to distract from it by going on about Holder and the true ( ) nature of the case.
