Apparently August 16th is an unusually bad day to be morbidly obese.

amazingly, it doesn't seem like obesity was the killer here, as you would think. Pancreatic cancer apparently, which is just about the worst cancer diagnosis you can get.

The Sultan of Swat, King of Rock 'n Roll, and Queen of Soul all passed away on the the same date.

Didn't realize she had so many charting songs. Was reading a short article about her and this little nugget popped up.... yikes

Franklin was a mother of two by the time she was 14 years old, giving birth to her first son, Clarence, when she was 12, and welcoming a second son, Edward, two years later.

Read that too. It also claimed some thought for a while wrongly her dad fathered the first one. At any rate she had a tough youth and dealt with demons. She supposedly was a freak when it came to sex, food and booze.

The pancreatic cancer diet will do that. I read 85 pounds.

decent interview with Ed Bradley (rip). https://www.cbsnews.com/video/the-aretha-franklin-60-minutes-interview/

@Pittmike, I think you are thinking of Nina Simone...another great singer pianist who was known to have sexual proclivities...

Either 76 is a lie or those are the hardest miles I have seen on a woman. She looked old 40 years ago in The Blues Brothers. I remember during her pop revival in the 80s thinking she was some sixty year old coot pretending that young men would want her.

Sounds about right. My mom lost half of her weight in the 18 months between diagnosis and death.

Supposedly Jennifer Hudson is playing her in the movie.

They asked her about a few of the modern Divas, Only ones she really did not have kind words for where Taylor Swift"Nice gowns" and Nikki Minaj"Well,we will just skip over that one".

Best burn on Nicki Minaj was when she tried to dress like a mermaid and Azealia Banks called her "Chicken of the Sea."

Yeah that whole Minaj type isn’t working for me. I prefer a Kelly Rowland vibe.
