It won’t even do that. They’ll just go the fast food route. This is a completely ineffective law and any time spent on passing and drafting it was completely useless and counterproductive. You’re a good liberal tho Bob!

Ronald Regaen is a liberal in 2018. Maybe not Nancy.

I know you’re a liberal so you’re constitutionally incapable of understanding this, but banning things that shouldn’t be banned is bad.

yep, he got the cutting taxes part right, but completely missed the 2nd part of the lesson, which is cutting spending. He spent like a drunk sailor, and let's not even get into the failure of the war on drugs. I know I'm preaching to the choir in your case though.

I would rather have California's legislature fumbling around with dumbshit go-nowhere soda rules than actually getting stuff done like the ALEC-run statehouses do.

It's a step in the right direction. The free market has decided that obese kids and all of the illnesses that come from that are fine.

He just needs to realize that single payer would be a fiscal disaster and would lead to worse outcomes as making a service "free" doesn't magically eliminate scarcity. Then he'll see the light.

I believe you’re either trolling or being intellectually dishonest right now. I don’t believe you would be in favor of the government banning all fast food and every unhealthy meal being available. You just like lame headlines that don’t mean shit and the government banning people from doing stuff you don’t have a problem doing in your every day life. It’s very sad.

At some point someone has to push back on the crap that's being offered. If not everyone will be taking medication and our health care system will completely collapse.

This isn't pushing back tho. It's a meaningless gesture and banning something that doesn't need to be banned.

"Sugary" drinks is one of the leading causes of obesity and MANY other childhood health issues. Does this prevent parents from giving their kids crap? No. Does it place an obstacle in their path? Yes. That's progress.

I'm okay with the government restricting things that have been proven to lead to childhood and adult health issues. I'm fine with a state like California testing the effectiveness of the restrictions. MANY parents and grandparents think these things are fine "because we consumed it" but don't realize that it's not produced the same way.

You wrote a lot of words and didn't answer my question. The state shouldn't be banning and outlawing things that aren't dangerous. Giving your kid a soda with pizza isn't dangerous or bad for the kid. Like anything, excessive consumption is bad.

This is a pretty terrible precedent and one step closer to the government telling you how to raise your kids. It's bad for you. Shame on you, CH, and Bob for buying into partisan politics rather than thinking about the consequences of such a law.

All fast food isn't a primary cause of MANY health issues. It's not just 1 pop either. MANY restaurants offer unlimited refills for kids. Eating 10 McNuggets is better than drinking the 20 oz Pepsi.

Don't be lazy. I mocked Bloomberg when I first heard about his tax proposal. This has nothing to do with partisan politics. The over consumption of these drinks are literally killing kids and causing lifetime problems. The health costs from these drinks are rising annually at a rapid pace and will ultimately cripple our system.

The government already does tell people how to raise their kids. Disapproving of guidance and advice available to all American parents only speaks to the desire for an underclass to be above. One state out of fifty halfheartedly sabre-rattling at some fast food joints over Mountain Dew is not turning America into a 300-million-person kibbutz, so relax.

Maybe the parents can sort of tell their kid no too?

My parents thought it was fine for me to sit on someone's lap in a moving automobile as an infant and to ride without putting on a seat belt. They had done the same thing as a kid and turned out okay. Today none of us would allow our babies or kids to ride without a carseat or seatbelt. It took government restrictions and a little education to change this behavior.

Complaining about the "Nanny State" makes no sense in regards to laws about kids. It is literally a nanny state for them as others have pointed out.

This law won't work though but we tell parents and businesses lots of things they can't do with children.
