I'm kind of amazed at some of the takes.

Oh it's too much to give up.

Oh it's too early for this move.

You have a unique chance to get an absolutely Elite player. You take that chance all day.

I'm glad he's here, we should have a top 3 D now..it's just a bit scary how Pace throws around picks on a team with many holes.

Biggest trade since the Bears got Carl Garrett

Before we get too excited, do we know Mack's thoughts on homosexuality or anthem standing?

He's entitled to believe whatever he damn well wants. Just go out and hit the quarterback.

What are their holes? Really where are they super weak?

The second CB isn't great, but its not like they have nobody there. Amukamara, Cooper and Callahan are good enough.
Same goes for RT. Massie is adequate.
Interior OL has some worry because Long is so injury prone, but you cant expect them to just be 2 deep at every position in a league with a salary cap.

Other than that I fail to see what positions have been neglected.

They have not neglected QB at all. Could you really tell anything from like 15 preaseason snaps?

Weak at QB, Oline, Tight end. I'm not sure about wideout..I know I'd be feeling better if Meredith was kept on.

There is really no NFL commodity more overrated than 1st round picks.

Even the Eagles, a team that is really The Model for anyone looking to build without being fortunate enough to have Tom Brady around, have failed on quite a few picks. Danny Watkins and Marcus Smith were colossal busts. Nelson Agholor had a decent year last year and is on the upswing, but that one looked really dicey for a while. And that is probably THE most successful team in the NFL at drafting first rounders. A 60-70% success rate is what you hope and pray for.

The Bears having a 2018 like the Jaguars did in 2017 would be a pretty successful season by any fan's expectations. Before Ramsey their five first rounds picks were: Blaine Gabbert, Justin Blackmon, Luke Joeckel, Blake Bortles and Dante Fowler. Every one of those picks made in the top 10. And that team went to the AFC title game.

I'm still surprised it cost so much but ultimately I'm fine with it. What will suffer likely is the offensive line, especially since it appears Jordan Morgan has gone the way of Tayo Faboluje and these late round attempts by Pace to snag a good offensive lineman off tools alone have come up dry. They have set themselves up for a bit of a roster crunch there. But its a salary cap league, that's just the reality of the situation. Every team has to worry about this kind of stuff.

Meredith wouldn't even be seeing the field. The failure in the Meredith situation was letting him go for nothing.
Again, they are maybe going to carry four TE's on the roster including a big free agent acquisition and last year's 2nd round pick, who was a developmental guy from the start.
Their offensive line is adequate. Not weak but not great either.

The secondary is instantly better because of the pass rush.

Agreed.

This isn't baseball where it takes a longer term approach to rebuilding. NFL teams can better really quickly and if you have a chance to add a player of this level you do it every time.

Two first round picks seems like a lot, but think about it like this. Would you trade Kevin White and Shea McClellin for Mack? Of course you would. The likelihood that these two picks will be better than Mack is very very slim.

Since Urlacher is there any combination of two Bears first round picks you would not give up for a 27 year old Khalil Mack?

Maybe Tommie Harris if he stayed healthy, but other than that no.

The Bears shouldn't be drafting high unless he gets a career ending injury.

Would you trade 2 mid to late 1st round picks for a franchise player? Of course! There is no need to worry about the picks.

I'm guessing we find out the player once the trade is official and the extension is signed. Cuts are due in less than an hour, wonder if they try to get this official before then.

I'm bothered that no one knows what player is included.

I think so. Maybe they wanted to or had to wait until all of the cuts were made across the league before they officially announce the deal.

Trade official, source tells ESPN: Bears get: Khalil Mack, a 2020 second-round round pick and a conditional 2020 fifth-round pick. Raiders get: 2019 first-round pick, 2020 first-round pick, 2020 third-round pick, 2019 sixth-round pick. So Bears get back second-round pick, too
