From Teddy Greenstein:

While WMVP continued to lead in mornings and afternoons, the Score dominated the midday (5.4-3.4), defined as 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Arbitron won't release hour-by-hour breakdowns until Tuesday, but it's clear that WSCR's combo of "Mully & Hanley" (10-noon) and Mike Murphy (noon-2) thrived. Asked to explain the success of Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley, Rosen replied: "I think they're real. They're Chicago guys and they play the hits."

That has got to hurt with all of the money they're spending on S&W and no one is listening...ouch.

I'd be interested in the hour by hour breakdown before piling on S&W. They do a very good show, and the Mike Tirico show is an abomination.

Yea, we already know that Murph's ratings are tremendous partly due to his national competition. I bet M&H vs WS is pretty close.

Silvy and Waddle have the benefit of their first hour overlapping with the unbearable North but I suspect you would see a lot of dials turning back to the Score at 10 when Mully goes on and then they stay there. Why they stay past noon is beyond me but you're right, the national show offers no interesting competition. Frankly, I'd rather eat my lunch in silence than listen to Murph but thats probably just me.

You see, it's interesting because if you gauge this board, you'd assume Silvy and Waddle were doing well. And Murph has alway been a polorizing topic here (but he still does well)

Tirico and van Pelt sound like they're going to do the same inept boring radio that Tirico/Tafoya and Dan Patrick have done in the past. Maybe we should ask them to tape delay that Colin guy...

Perhaps their ratings are sub par because the methodology of Arbitron does not take into account online listeners.

It is still diary-based, I believe, and isn't going to change for awhile.

I won't try to pretend that my own listening habits represent the vast majority of sports radio listeners in Chicago. But I enjoy Silvy and Waddle and do NOT like Tirico much. I find that between noon and 2pm that I switch to either Murph ( I love baseball and the Cub's-and he covers it pretty thoroughly) or music. Then at 2pm it's back to MVP- unless there is a ballgame on. I agree with many posts here, that Tirico's show is likely to be the weakest one. I'm sure that with all the changes from Carmen& Silvy, to Salisbury and Rosenbloom, to Silvy and Waddle, that some listeners were lost along the way due to the lack of continuity.

I've said before on here that I don't think this show is all that good. I guess this ratings book really doesn't shock me, but agree that if you just read posts on here, you'd think this was one of the top rated shows in Chicago.

The Waddle schtick just gets old very quickly. I like the guy on 32 breaking down the Bears, and actually liked him when he was down the dial at 720. It just doesn't work with Silvy, at all. He's genuinely uninterested in half the topics they talk about. It seems like he's gone at least twice a week (which ironically is when I'll turn in to listen to Silvy and Carm). When he is in, everything revolves around him. Silvy just doesn't go with this, he eggs it on. Heck, even their contests revolve around Waddle's life. I don't need hardcore sports talk from 9-Noon weekdays, but this is not the right local show to follow Mike & Mike.

Very well said. I don't hate or dislike the show, but I've heard a lot better with Silvy and Carmen, and even Carmen with Hood and JD. You're analysis revolving around Waddle is pretty accurate, in my opinion.

Nope not here. I actually like waddle and silvy alot. Im just glad they have anything on not after Rosenbloom came on and basically punked out all the fantasy football players the first day on WMVP calling us losers and stuff like that. He lost me right then and there.

I think Silvy and Waddle have a loyal listener base as demonstrated by a number here. I don't mind them but find it interesting that Mully and Hanley are literally drawing nearly twice as many listeners according to the ratings.

Hope they don't count ratings numbers from today. Chet is in and up to his old tricks.
