They still had $10m in cap room left so I'm glad to see them use it.

Have they picked up the 5th year option on Leonard Floyd?

Here's his payday now no more fluky injuries keeping him out half the season. I get taking care of your body before you've been paid (especially when the team has been so bad) but now its time for Eddie to play banged up.

I think they make that decision next off-season. They assuredly will barring a disastrous season by him.

Goldman's good but this is a dumb extension. Even when healthy he's not dominant enough to be paid like that, and he's not exactly always healthy.

They had to do it. How would they replace Goldman if he were to walk? They dont have any draft picks and dont know what the free agent landscape at NT will look like (Goldman would probably be the best one available by a lot). They overpay him, but they overpay him on this year's cap just more than 48 hours before the season kicks off.

Like I said, wait until Amos. That might be get kinda ugly. He is right on the cusp of being a franchise tag worthy player.

The salary cap is changing and he's not a bad guy to reward early.

btw- Leonard Floyd turns 26 tomorrow and Eddie Goldman won't even be 25 until the regular season is over. So they locked him up young.

That doesn't make him young....it makes Floyd old.

In fact I'm pretty sure Goldman now is younger than Floyd was when the Bears drafted him.

Every NFL agent will flocking to the Bears to see if they can snag a contract from Pace. Jim Hendry's barrel is parked in his office.

Well, you need guys like him to anchor that 3-4 front, and they aren't exactly easy to find. He's also still pretty young (24 I think) so from those perspectives, I get it.

Health is an issue for him tho, but then again, any guy his size at his position is most likely going to have that stigma.

Cap wise down the road I'm not sure how much the Bears are hamstringing themselves with some of these defensive deals. Its odd in a way too considering they drafted a 'franchise QB' whom you'd think theyd want to build around. But maybe these are front loaded deals (I haven't read into their details at all so..) that won't effect the Bears much if and when they decide to pay Mitch and co.

Olin Kreutz said he’s a top 3 or 4 NT in the NFL when explaining how he was making life a living hell for Daniels in practice.

Nobody even knows the true value of Goldman unless you go back and watch game film, and who has time for that?
