Drinking?

Boats?

Say it ain't so.

Benson is guilty of one thing - being an enabled athlete and thinking he can do whatever he likes.

He's an idiot, and eventually he'll be cut from the Bears for being paid a large salary and being both ineffective and fragile (physically and mentally), not for drinking and boating.

I don't think he had much to begin with.

I don't think he'll be on the team, and this does give the Bears a reason to release him sooner than expected, but I don't know if they go out and sign a veteran RB because that would probably mean they keep 4 RB's. We'll see though because they may choose to go that route because Forte is a rookie.

How many more chances does Wolfe get. He looked awful last year. Unless he is a great RB from day one, god help them if the Bears go into camp with Forte, Wolfe, and Peterson as their backfield.

I'd rather sign Dom Rhodes, and go into the season with Rhodes, Forte' and A-Pete.

Benson will be a PUP list candidate, who will get whacked after the '08 season.

He did show some flashes of potential later in the year, but they have to put him in a role he can have success at. Don't line up him up on your own one yard line, and expect him to get your team out of the hole, like the Bears did last season against Minnesota. Give him chances as a 3rd down receiver, draw plays, things like that.

Keep in mind that this is clearly a rebuilding role for the offense. I'd much rather find out about Wolfe as a 3rd down back than picking up some retread off the waiver wire who won't make any difference on our final won-loss record.

Give Forte the ball from Day 1, rookies have had a lot of success at that position, and let's see if we can improve our running game. On paper, the group doesn't look too hot, but let's see how it works out.

It's pretty clear our new running back Forte is gonna get the most carries of any rookie. Just cuz we won't have a decent back up. Especially now that Benson certainly won't play for the Bears now.

-McFadden has a couple good running backs with him in Oakland. They'll ease him in slowly cuz they can.

-Mendenhall won't get many carries his rookie year. Willie Parker will still get the vast majority for the Steelers.

-That guy Dallas picked won't get the majority of carries. The guy in Detroit is not an every down back anyway.

I might look for a prop bet in Vegas if they have it. Forte for Rookie of the year. Just because RBs have the easiest transition and it's pretty clear that Forte is gonna get 25 carries a game. No other options.

I'll see if I can get good odds on that ROY bet. That could be a very nice value bet.

I dont really think Forte will get 400 carries this season. I'd be very surprised if he got 300.

He'll get 300 carries for sure. Who the hell else is gonna get more than him for the Bears?

It will be 10-15 for the first 2 games. Then Forte will get 20-30 after that.

To get 300 carries you have to average 18.75 carries a game. And play all 16 games. If Forte plays all 16 he will average that.

Only 6 RB's had 300 carries last season. Portis had the most at 325. Lynch was a great workhorse rookie for the Bills and had 280. I think 300 is definitely the most you can expect, I expect 250 if he has a good year, 150-200 if he has a lousy year.

Well, that's cuz a lot of RBs got injured. Can't precict injuries. If he plays all 16 games it just takes and 18.75 average carries per game. He will do that.

Like I said, just cuz he is clearly our best back. Other RBs in this draft will have better careers maybe. They just won't have the chances Forte will have in his rookie year.

I stand by my predictions that he wont get 300, but I agree with you on the prop bet if you can get good odds. What do you think they will be? 15-1? 20-1?

Matt Ryan will win ROY if he starts almost all year and isnt terrible, but I dont like the odds of either happening. Unless Stewart, Jones, Mendenhall, etc. have AP-esque rookie years and force their teams to make them the #1 option, I like Forte's chances. He at least has the most opportunity.

See, Vegas isn't stupid either. If I thought of it being a good value bet I'm sure they did too. So maybe 10-1. Still not bad.

I'll bet if some Casino had it at 20-1 or 15-1 it went down after the Benson arrest. Right after a couple of gamblers hit it pretty hard.

My dad is going to Vegas at the end of May. I'll tell him to look for that prop. I'll let you know what it is if I can get it.

I think Lovie Smith can officially change his philosophy from "We get off the bus running" to "We get off the boat drinking".

I had a bad feeling about Benson from the day he started crying at the draft. He's done nothing to change that.

15 people on a 30 foot boat and he can't find one guy to take the fall?

I don't think he is in the plans anyway. He is like an undrafted free agent to them. If he perfroms they will keep him.

The only difference is no matter how well he does, he is not coming back

Fighting the cops was the most tackles Benson's ever broken in one run.

Which is Greater: Yards Gained vs. Texas DPS Officers or Yards Gained against the Colts In the Superbowl?

The Bears would be stupid to punish the kid like that in his first season. 250-300 is reasonable. AP and Wolfe can handle the rest.

I completely agree. Although the evidence isnt completely conclusive yet, I submit Larry Johnson as the prime example of this.

Peggy Kazinski, of channel 5, said that she talked to Benson.

Benson said he passed the sobriety test on the boat. He said he was polite. He said he didn't resist arrest until they started to pepper spay him. He was then kicked to the ground by his ankles.

Benson claims he wasn't operating the boat and that he was unfairly treated. He said he might sue.

Is Benson a liar?

Or is this the good ole boys in Austin, Texas picking on the black football player?

I could believe either story. Kudos to Peggy for getting a hold of Benson.

Full story here.

I predicted he would blame someone else this morning. Looks like he is still getting ankle tackled.

That's not really fair. Would you say the same thing if it was a person you didn't know? Police can be overzealous at times and it's more believable that he wasn't driving the boat than if he was caught drunk driving.

You may have predicted he would blame someone else this morning, but that doesn't mean he's not right.

No matter what though, this is another strike for Benson.

I don't necessarily believe his story with what I have seen of him in his time here, but I'm not going to hold it against him that he isn't taking responsibility for making a mistake. It's possible he didn't do anything wrong but I am not holding my breath.
