I dont know if it was mentioned but the Bears are very clearly expecting their 2020 first to be in the mid-high 20's, if not the 30's, and for Oakland to be picking top 10. If that case you're talking 10-15 spots in draft position which isn't nothing, but also not the same as "giving up" a pick. This line of thinking may be a little optimistic but its not totally unwarranted. Getting back that 2nd round pick is a big deal.

If it really works out that they gave up was a 2019 first, a chunk of 2020 draft position and a 2020 3rd. The late-round picks all even themselves out. That's a steal. If the Bears really like someone in the mid-first that year they'll be able to move up to grab him. If there is a will there is a way. Obviously 2019 they're basically going to be on the sidelines but for what they got in exchange I am fine with that.

The money couldn't matter less. What good is money in a salary cap league if you dont spend it? Its not like the money is really coming at the expense of something else. They still have $10m in cap this year and going forward there's enough room for Goldman and Amos extensions.

What FA's next year that you really want are they out on? They dont really need Landon Collins, Earl Thomas or Grady Jarrett. Would love to have gotten Lewan but he's been extended. No way the Bears should be dropping a fortune on a runningback when Pace has demonstrated that he can find those in the draft. And like every year a bunch of these cant-miss FA types are going to be franchise tagged. The best players I can be reasonably certain of hitting the free agent market next year are Thomas, Brandin Cooks and Tyrod Taylor. Seems like the Bell situation is either going to be resolved or he's going to miss out the season (the Steelers will deal him if this is the reality). Bears dont have a real need for any of those guys.

You're trying to reason with a bitter Packers fan. He was praying for the Packers to make this deal a few weeks ago when oddsmakers were saying they had the best chance.

Just a reminder that Pace has to trade up to ensure he didn't have to choose between Watson and Mahomes.

Ryan Pace is "bold" though. That's what all the beat writers keep telling us

I dont even know what Brick is talking about. I'd rather have (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky than Watson right now.

Mahomes had 6 TD passes today. Mitch has had 7 TD passes in his career.

Might be a fire worthy decision in the long run.

I've said this before:

Last year, Watson had 21 TD's and 8 picks with a 103 passer rating.......in 7 games.

I will be overjoyed if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky ever matches those stats.

First you insisted on Watson, now that he looks like shit you say they should've taken Mahomes (based on literally just two weeks of Mahomes).

Lol.. You are full of shit.. Watson doesn't look like shit, he looks very good. I've maintained Watson and Mahomes were no brainer picks over Mitch. Mitch blows..these guys are good.

If (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky were to lose a game the way Watson just did yesterday you would lose your mind. Watson really looks bad.

Obviously Mahomes looks like he could be a young Favre. Right now anyone in their right mind would swap the two.

Complete with running a full 3 yards past the line of scrimmage and burning :20 needlessly when there is plenty of time to get within FG range to try for the tie. Again, if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky did this people would go apeshit. I would go apeshit. Wtf is he running around for?

And lest you believe that's just one bad play, he's looked pretty horrible all the time with Will Fuller V and Hopkins making some pretty nice plays to bail him out.

I told you Alex Smith over Colin Kaepernick 5 years ago. You didn't want to listen.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky hasn't shown much of anything. That doesn't mean he won't become a good to great quarterback.

The big issue is that Pace was so worried about missing on (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky he gave up a lot of stuff to move up one pick when it was a lock that he could have chosen between Mahomes and Watson and both of them are clearly at least equal in terms of potential. I can completely understand choosing (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky over either of them. For a year before the draft, I was clamoring to draft the best quarterback available at the time of the pick. Pick one, play the lottery, and see what happens.

I just can't get it out of my head that he was sitting on draft day so terrified that ONE pick ahead of him would take the ONLY quarterback he could handle taking and he had to grossly overpay to move up one spot. Now, we are in year two and (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has not shown that type of ability to make that type of thought process defensible.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has flashed that ability. I would ask for 15 more weeks of patience.

Watson was an injury time bomb that they probably were not willing to draft in R1 period. I guess I'm inferring a lot there, but his knee problems were nothing new. Now post-ACL (second time) he just looks like a different player, and it's not like NE and Tennessee are world-beaters or that Watson doesn't have weapons.

Mahomes was seen a pretty big surprise going to the Chiefs, a lot of people had him going in the 2nd. Clearly he looks like the pick of the litter, his arm is ludicrous. But, the Chargers defense was without Bosa and the Steelers pass rush (their defense in general) is pretty sad. I'm curious to see how he does against a front 7 that is more concerned with getting after him than stopping the run. They get to smash the 49ers next week but after that is Denver/Jacksonville...I'm curious how he'll do in those two games.

Guy just throws a great deep ball, He and Watson are pocket passers first who have mobility. Mitch is mobile who can't throw downfield from the pocket. Watson might have the worst O line in the league too.

Don't get me wrong. I understand and agree with the reasons that he chose (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. There is still a good chance of failure involved unless you get the #1 pick with a guy who is clearly supposed to go #1, and even then the results can be less than you hoped for like Andrew Luck.

I just can't get over that Pace was so sure of (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky that he had to move up one spot to make sure that he got him when at the time there was at least one and maybe another quarterback that would have had a similar chance of success. That's why the trade makes no sense even to this day. Was Pace unable to handle it if he had to draft Watson or Mahomes? Did he think both would be bad NFL quarterbacks?

Moving up never made sense. The only way in hindsight that it will look genius is if Mitch becomes far and away the best from that draft class AND we find out that someone else was trying to jump ahead of the Bears to take him. Then, the move would be considered bold.

I just can't take you seriously when you are clinging to Watson like this. He looks hopeless unless his WR just make the play for him. His OL isn't great but he's doing nothing to sense or get away from pressure. He's turning it over a lot and not doing much on 3rd down. I'll give him a break on the way the game ended against the Titans from here on out, but most starting QB's in the league (50%+1) get within range of at least a prayer FG in that situation and all of them, literally all, would do a better job than Watson did.

Maybe he'll get his shit together but right now I would say his situation is on the road to becoming dire.

No doubt trading up was dumb. It was a little concerning that Pace was fleeced by a guy who likely has CTE. What he's done since then made me get over that decision.

I could definitely see the Bears finding any option other than (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky unacceptable in the first. Watson for injury concerns and Mahomes because they didn't like the value.

And it's been reported that there were more than just them asking the 49ers about 1.2, and more importantly the player the Bears likely would've taken at 1.3 had (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky been gone is Solomon Thomas. Solomon Thomas looks really bad, almost doesn't-belong-in-the-league bad. So if the difference between that and (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky are the modest bouquet of picks the Bears wound up parting with to insure (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky I'm fine with it.

Just to out Thomas into perspective, I don't even think he'd get into the Bears DL rotation over Bullard and RRH.

That's pretty bad if true. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky was not that type of prospect even if he was ahead of the others.

They were drafting a quarterback at 3. If you didn't like Watson then you draft Mahomes if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is gone and he probably wouldn't have been gone anyways if the 49ers loved Thomas as much as they seemed to.

The only two guys you can be upset about missing out on from the 2017 draft, as a Bears fan, are Lattimore (who is off to an inauspicious start to his 2018) and Mahomes. Nobody else drafted in the upper 3rd of that draft who was available to the Bears has done much more than (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has to distinguish themselves. Maybe Jamal Adams. Leonard Fournette obviously but the Bears don't need to draft RB's in the first round. So as far as those two go I'm not really regretting having (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky instead of them.

The 49ers were going to trade out of the pick. If not to the Bears someone else. No telling if "someone else" would've taken (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky but assuming they did all bets are off on what the Bears would have done. I don't think they were certain of taking a QB in the first that year. They were certain about (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky specifically but the position not so much.
