Yes it did. The Giants were poised to take him one pick before the Bear.

Too bad they didn't.

Roquan Smith is not the next Wilbur Marshall. He looks undersized out there.

When he had the chance to make a play against Wilson on the scramble up the middle, Smith whiffed.

Even great players don't make every play. He looks good out there.

I thought Roquan was fantastic in that game. Wilson can do that shit to anyone, and he only did it once.

The front 7 just looks incredible right now. Hicks/Goldman/RRH/Bullard all have been great and the linebackers even better. Its really exciting to watch.

Roquan Smith, 6'1", 236

I linked to the WFR post that shows rankings, and it has three QB's in the First Round. Many felt Mahomes would be outside the first round. Anyway, it is interesting to see what we all thought before Pace made the move.

This is elite pocket prescience.

I don't think he is undersized. As for the play on Wilson, Wilson makes a lot of people miss. The Bears looked like a wolf pack out there hunting a deer. It was fun to watch.

Much more worried about Floyd than Smith.

I hated the Floyd pick, dude was like 25 and looked like a body double for Kevin white. I hated the Mitch pick. I liked the Smith pick.

He may be but he's unable to get penetration.

I think he's taking the wrong angle on the tight ends he tries to dominate.

He already is

He's a rotational player on this team. No reason to play him on anything other than passing downs even once his hand is healed. Bad pick, not outright bust yet but certainly poor value for 1.9.

Tell you what though, Hargreaves is no better than Floyd and Eli Apple is even worse. In fact I don't see a Bears starter drafted after 1.9 until 1.21 with Will Fuller. The top 8 is pretty good but after that what a pile of shit that draft was.

Why passing downs? He hasn't pressured the QB all season.

Well he's definitely not going to be useful at all against the run. Especially compared to Acho, Lynch and Kwiatkowski. He's still fast and with Mack pretty much taking the attention of the entire right side of opposing OL there just has to be ways to use Floyd's speed to get him involved.

The Bears are using their ends to create a double envelopment on opponents flanks then driving the middle with Bullard/RRH/Goldman/Hicks who have all been exemplary power rushers. This is why they've been successful, the pocket just collapses. Its the Hannibal Barca Defense. I think Floyd can be an effective flanker even if he's not directly getting to the QB.

Floyd can't get off a block. I'm noticing once some puts their hands on him he's taken out of the play.

Could they swing Floyd outside of Mack in a 7 technique and just have him run into the back field and look for the collapsing pocket.

This defense has played 2 HOF QBs so far. What the fuck are they going to do to Sam Bradford. Pretty good chance he is killed and they get a rookie.

They drop Floyd into coverage quite a bit. Always have. He has never been just a pure pass rusher for them.

He had a great pass defense on a key third down in the Seahawk game and his fumble recovery was in coverage

They won't see Rosen unless both Glennon and Bradford get hurt.

Mack is comfortable playing DE so they could easily run him with Goldman and Hicks as down linemen then have Floyd+Lynch/Kwiatkowski at outside LB. There are two problems

1. Bullard and RRH have looked really good so far and there's no reason to sub out that rotation.
2. Any QB who is paying attention will see what is coming and audible to the other half of the field. Not necessarily a bad outcome because the Bears will probably anticipate that happening and read the play, but its still tossing resources at something that can be easily countered. This is why you won't see Rosen though, a rookie in his first game will not notice what the Bears are doing and will wind up getting decapitated.

I didn't know Glennon went there. Holy shit am I excited for this game.

Every week feels like Cutler against the giants in that Sunday night game where he was so concussed he tried walking to the giants sideline.

Floyd is looking like a bust. That OLB opposite Mack should be having a field day.
