It's asinine the Bears are making Floyd play with a cast on. He won't be effective and will only aggravate the injury.

I played D-line in college and broke and dislocated my pinky finger on my right hand my junior year. The coaches made me play with the cast, and everytime I had contact with anyone I was in pain. I imagine it's the same for Floyd.

They need to just sit Floyd and let him heal. You can't say he's a bust because of the injury.

Well he's definitely not going to be useful at all against the run. Especially compared to Acho, Lynch and Kwiatkowski. He's still fast and with Mack pretty much taking the attention of the entire right side of opposing OL there just has to be ways to use Floyd's speed to get him involved.

The Bears are using their ends to create a double envelopment on opponents flanks then driving the middle with Bullard/RRH/Goldman/Hicks who have all been exemplary power rushers. This is why they've been successful, the pocket just collapses. Its the Hannibal Barca Defense. I think Floyd can be an effective flanker even if he's not directly getting to the QB.

Floyd is a disappointment. I didn't like it when they drafted him. Wanted an offensive lineman. Fangio is giving him a pretty long leash because they like his athleticism. I don't think his hand in a cast is a huge factor. It probably hurts when he tackles someone or fights off blocks but as long as the hand is protected, what does pain matter?

If Floyd even approaches the potential they expected for him, this defense will get even better. I said before, this is really getting fun to watch. A pack of wolves on the scent of their prey. Good stuff.

Ouch!! However, I think it all depends on whether the cast will protect the fracture. Pain has to be expected for a player. Injury is another matter. Floyd needs to justify his salary just like all the players do. Its the nature of the business.

I've seen many guys play with clubs and casts on defense and offense line.. It didn't really hinder them. He's not a DB or safety, he's going after the QB or dropping into zone coverage.

Nobody ever doubted his speed.. He can cover most tight ends( BFD) he can't keep his skinny ass on the field for 17 weeks.. He's useless against the run and and he can't cover a wideout or back. It was a stupid ass pick and he should be able to capitalize ( like every other bear) with Mack here.. He isn't.

If he can cover OJ Howard week 4 it will definitely be a big fucking deal.

I want you guys to understand and internalize these numbers. This applies to the entire NFL and there is not much variation between teams. Even the vaunted Patriots dont stray too far from these numbers.

Ready? This what teams get out of their draft picks.

16.7% never play a down.
37% are considered "useless" (shockingly high)
15.3% are simply bad
10.5% are average
12.3% are good
6.9% are great
1% are legendary

That means only 30.7%, less than a third, of drafted players are guys that you are even OK with starting. Only 20% are guys you are happy with playing starters time.

Ryan Pace has beaten the league in every single one of his drafts.

Out of six players drafted in 2015 Pace has found two solidly good players in Goldman and Amos. That's 33%, so Pace found a better rate of good players than the rest of the league found even average players.
Out of nine players in 2016 Pace found two average, two good and one great player. He crushed the league. I dont even need to explain this one.
Out of five players in 2017 Pace has found two average and one good player. This one is still pretty subject to change as Eddie Jackson and Tarik Cohen's stocks both seem to be pretty fluid at the moment.
Its way too early to get into 2018. They have two guys right now who are already starting and playing well, so that is encouraging.

Pace is not perfect. But drafting too many busts is not his problem. He has beaten the league when it comes to the draft.

If he drafted a QB at 2 who won't ever win you a game, then I don't care what else you did. You failed that draft.

As long he doesn't lose them games I am fine with it. Qb's can take eons to develop.

Look no further than Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers.

Drew Brees is like the poster child for it but never gets mentioned. I think people have forgotten that he played for San Diego.

It is risky to give up on young QBs who have both the physical tools and shown themselves to be good at even some parts of the position. The fact that it takes so many guys having to play out their rookie contracts to really find their groove means a lot of teams get burned.

Funny. Mitch will never win a game for the Bears, eh? What a silly prediction.

That wasn't my prediction. It was based on America's statement in the Mitch Blows thread.

I think Mitch will eventually have some Grsossman or Jim Miller games where he is on fire.

I meant this iteration of the team. I'm probably going to be proven correct. His job is to execute, and they want him to execute in two situations specifically: (1) on 3rd down and (2) the red zone. He also has to ensure the Bears win the turnover battle. If he does those things the team will be successful and the Bears will win a lot of football games. It is very realistic that they finish the year with the best defense in the NFL and almost certain they'll be one of the top 5 (injuries are the only thing that can derail this). The run game and offensive line are strong as well.

I know exactly what your next thought is: "but teams will stuff the box! The Bears will be shut down on the ground!". Seattle stuffed the box and the Bears used misdirection, sweeps and those short/intermediate routes to Allen Robinson to get around it. If opponents want to try that the Bears scheme will eat them alive. Leaving 8-9 players in the box and 6 on the LOS against the Bears' personnel packages is suicide. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky showed he can hit Robinson on those routes and cutting off 7-9 yard chunks with that kind of regularity is exactly what the Bears want to do on offense.

I wish he'd stretch the field, but whatever. Maybe one day.

So all those years of Cutler were like getting a dog to walk on its hind legs and the Bears will once again dominate through a managed offense and stifling defense/special teams. Go figure.

Oh they were totally prepared to try and be an offensive team again. Then they got Khalil Mack.

Bilal Nichols debuted today and looked explosive. I havent seen a dropoff from RRH or Bullard so him breaking into the rotation is Nichol's doing. The coaches see something. Encouraging.

Early returns from 2018 draft:
Roquan and Miller both look like good regulars.
Nichols is explosive and has potential.
Daniels, Fitts and Wims developing still.
The Joel Iggy guy is dud, wasted pick.

I would assume so. Singlehandedly carrying a team would get tiring at some point.

I love Urlacher but I can't recall a Bear consistently playing at this level every week.
