Smith is never going to shine like he did in college. The game has changed a lot even in that short amount of time. Urlacher said it himself. The pace of change in most everything now is making the best coaches those who can adapt the quickest, while driving all the rest of us mere mortals nuts. This hellashish defensive front has the ability to render the next guys up as role players who might post D of the week because of you.

Mack is a legit nightmare. He is a killer in the run game which Von Miller never has been. Holy hell. Trading him will go down as one of the worst moves in sports history unless he goes gimpy. This team is must watch TV just because of one guy.

His sack of Rodgers is ridiculous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai7A3mJ1uFg&t=150

In context, I guess he is referring to the time between last January and now

I liked him better when he had an avatar that looked like a teen magazine.

There are many retards on CFMB, almost all unremarkable, but Furious really does stand out for the specifically childlike quality to his crippling idiocy.

The difference between Roquan Smith and Kwiatkowski was night and day on Monday night.

Smith will be a top tier inside LB by this time next year.

You know it pains me to say Kwiatkowski is no match for Smith but its true.

Smith is around the ball so much more than Kwiatkoski it's ridiculous. Aaron Lynch also appears to be a major upgrade over Floyd.

Kwiatkowski knows where to be he just doesn't have the speed. He's a really good rotation guy.

I was actually a few drinks into that post but I think my point was I remember Urlacher saying during his HOF interview tour he doubted he'd have been as noticeable in the just the last handful of years where the game absolutely requires you to be able to generate dominate pressure with your front alone. The Green Bay game was no better example. Blitzing was going to do nothing but make it easier for Rodgers. And then Trevathan said it himself this last week. His player of the week nod was absolutely because of the work that the front put in and we all know now how different it looks with Mack on the sidelines getting air. That has always been the case to some extent but Roquan is playing in a time when that is even more of a factor. And I think that is what Urlacher meant, and what I was alluding to.

I like the Roquan pick just fine. I like it a shit load more than the (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky pick to this point. He does fit the modern NFL defense the Bears are running. I just dont think his contributions will be as obvious as years past. He might have weeks when he shines but that that won't be enough to be a consistent and obvious game changing player with a very serious defensive line like this one. He'd have to be a massively disruptive LB to make the hall of fame in this era even with all that athleticism and ball instincts we saw at an elite collegiate level.

Kwiatkowski is a very solid player but he doesn't have the speed. It's kind of painful to watch. He has more than enough awareness but lacks the speed to make the play, most of the time. Not at all a bad backup at all. You just scream at the TV when he sees the play but can't get there.

Urlacher couldn't get off of blocks the beginning of his career like MANY MLBers could. Having Ted Washington and Tractor Traylor eat at least 2 men at a time helped him. Tommie Harris helped later on. Roquan looks fine and he'll be a really good NFL player.

I dont have a problem with Kwiatkowski as long as he is used correctly. He's a solid player, he's just thoroughly outclassed by the studs the Beras have everywhere on their front 7. When he's amongst Khalil Mack, Leonard Floyd, Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan he is going to look slower than he really is. They are finding Kwiatkowski's role on this defense because Roquan Smith developed way faster than they thought after missing training camp. Players who know where to be are always valuable in the NFL. Just like Floyd is finding a role he excels at (I am going to write a post about this later, but dolphin was ahead of the game calling this one out. Floyd may have found his niche) they will have to do the same for Kwaitkowski.

I must ask a potentially stupid question: how has Noquan been playing? I really haven't heard much of anything about him since Mack was picked up (and for likely obvious reasons), but there was initially so much excitement about him, and now I hear nothing. Has he done anything to contribute after his first game?

He is playing very well, in the DROY conversation but right now is just being outplayed by a few guys. He gets the ball with quickness and violence.

He's not in the DROY conversation but that's more due to how stacked this defensive class is.
