I originally came here to talk about the Score. We used to have more Chicago talk radio conversation at this place than an anywhere on the net and the industry was paying attention. I think we have lost a lot of posters who loved sports talk radio. I think we have also lost a lot of sports talk on air talent that made a conversation compelling.

I've always thought the site was at its best when the radio conversation was at its greatest. People certainly had similar level disagreements about radio back in the day as they do about politics today.

i discovered this place while looking for other people that might have similar gripes about chicago sports and chicago media as i had. I work in a nerdery so to speak with very few daily sports outlets to discuss things with. I was apart of a fairly large fantasy football webforum for some time that also had a very robust "off topic" forum but as i lost interest in discussing fantasy football much, i stuck around for the off topic discussions which involved all that was listed above but ultimately that too grew stale (same 10 users commenting all the time) and people fell out and weren't really replaced with anyone of value.

What i discovered here is a perfect replacement for that space. There is an appropriate amount of meatball fandom, intelligence, trolling, and a balance of opposing views that makes this place a daily visit for me. Its organized properly and management isn't super aggressive.

Social media has done a good job of destroying many topic specific web forums. I've seen this mightily in the realm of hunting and fishing. Facebook is much easier. Reddit kind of as well but that community is too topic specific. If i wanted people in /hunting 's opinion on bbq i couldn't get it in /bbq. if that makes sense they aren't participating most likely or if they are, they are drowned out by the large other members to that subreddit.

Fads also kill web forums. Like in my example fantasy football. For a time it was all the rage. our forum grew crazily for a good number of years but has since died out.

But I'm not sure a city specific sports forum will die out from a lack of interest or social media. It could for other reasons such as mismanagement.

Thats why i've had no problem diving in and investing time engaging. Organically there is no reason for such a forum to go anywhere.

Now to laugh at the cucks, sorry, now soibois whining in the DiCaro thread now that Remo Williams got neutered.
