Preseason NBA games have devolved into FT shooting fests. 71 fouls called in the Memphis-Houston game in B'ham the other night. Chris Paul had 4 fouls in the first quarter. Crowd started getting on the officials. Letting them know they weren't there to see the zebras blow their whistles every 30 seconds.

blah blah blah, it's preseason. Anytime there is a rules change in ANY sport it takes some time for the players to adapt. Eventually they adapt and figure out how to play without fouling as much.

They do this kind of stuff in the preseason every year. They emphasize whatever rule they want to push and have the refs call it frequently to train the players about what to expect. Then they ease up when the regular season begins.

And then ABC bosses urge the refs to use these rules in the playoffs to fuck your small market team out of the running.

I know the NBA thinks scoring = ratings, but I think I would rather see some real basketball be played that includes defense at this point. All these rules have done is make people think players are actually all-time great players because they put up ridiculous offensive stats. It's getting old.

If the officials do continue being whistle-happy into the regular season, might be worth it to hammer the over on games til Vegas adjusts. Especially in games with defense-forward teams like the Grizzlies. All that clock-stopped scoring resulted in almost 250 points in their game against Houston.

Overs coming in almost 2 to 1:

66 games have gone over to 36 under; 0 pushes, so far. ~65%

Last NBA regular season, under 1200 games cashed in on the over, ~48%.

I don't follow NBA much except check out the scores, but was wondering why the high scoring, now see why.

Looking at tonight's games, 210 is the lowest over under game between Spurs-Pacers and and 238 is highest between Lakers-Suns.

I kinda look at it both ways, I think you want scoring in your games, but when it gets too high, then gets ridiculous, people do like some defense too.

the new 14 second shot clock after an offensive rebound might have some impact in late game situations. but overall changing the shot clock from 24 seconds to 14 seconds post offensive rebound only impacts an average of one possession per game; as only 6 percent of offensive rebound possessions clocked more than 14 seconds prior to this new rule: https://fansided.com/2018/08/24/nylon-c ... lock-rule/

I came back to basketball last year after like 15 years. Couldn't figure out half the rules anymore. I was like what the hell are those arcs under the hoop?

I believe those lines demarcate the 'DPZ', the designated punching zone.
