Not exactly. There are plenty of players who forgo the maximum money they could make for a lot of reasons. If I were Bryant I would give that type of discount no thought based on how the Cubs already took a discount on his services.

Bryant is a Boras client. He is going to the highest bidder regardless of what the Cubs did with his service time.

Get rid of him.

The shoulder is an over training injury.

HE WILL NEVER BE 100% AGAIN.

Good for the Cubs then to not care about it.

Yep. From this point on he'll be lucky to have the career of Carlos Lee.

Yup. I'd put more stock in the whispers Kap is hearing over the loud voices Bernstein hears.

Hey there Bubbles, just got off the phone with my guy Jed and he said that KB is none too pleased...Theo and I were talking about trying to woo KB back at the Pearl Jam show...asked EdVed what we should do, and he told us to go full court press...So Mindy and I took KB and the lovely Jessica out for a night on the town in the 'vette. FULL. COURT. PRESS. Dinner at Harry's, hanging with Frankie O. Drinks at 312 Chicago. A trip to Hamilton. Late night Lou's snack. Dropped them off at the Casa de Bryant thinking we were good to go. Sent them home with some Shari's Berries and a My Pillow 2.0 for each of them. Ce la vie...I guess we'll have to make sure Mindy sends some Lou's to them when they move on to Washington. Let's get Bob-o here hooked up with a Snuggie for his troubles today.

Back to the phones.

That was 2 years ago.. Isn't it based off the previous season?

It’s based more on service time. Mlbtraderumors projects him to make $12.4M.

2016 was great and all that, but this is going to be bad $$$ for the Cubs.

1) Bryant will get his shoulder fixed and be back to a 6-7 fWAR player next year. Some of you need to get a grip

2) The Cubs have his rights till 2022, so if he won't do an extension, let him stew till then.

Can MLB players hold out like NFL players? Could he report halfway through the season?

2 things here. SB isn't letting him sign early, and KB is banking on a bounce back season. He needs a monster season though. He's a average fielder at best, so having power numbers is a must.

Did the Score ever acknowledge this story? Never heard Berns or the afternoon show mention it.

Baez was drafted before him...i think at least 2 years before him and this past season he made 600-700k and Bryant made 10.2 mil. He can probably calm his afflicted asshole down about the year of control seeing as he is already making well over half of what a qualifying offer is and will probably be at 12 this year and 14 next year... This is still good for the Cubs. He needs to prove that his shoulder issue was a fluke and that his headed isn't screwed up from getting hit in the grill earlier this year.

Is it possible, Bryants camp is waiting for Machado and Harper to set the market?
