I was looking for the thread by hawkeye in the past on digital SLR cameras but couldn't find it. I'm in the market for a new camera and looking to upgrade to dslr. Anyone have experience with them?

Dr Ken - that was the thread I was thinking, but that was more point and shoot. My wife is looking for a camera to more action shots and pictures in a row type shooting - I guess you could say more professional. The Canon Powershot we have is great to have in your pocket, but she wants something a bit better.

Nikon D40/60/80 are pretty fast, but still not instantaneous.

Agreed. Several folks at work are high on the D80. It would be much quicker than the point and shoot I have which seems to take a while to get ready again.
