Its halfway thru the season. How would you grade the Bears?
Quarterback: B-
Mitch hasn't done a whole lot to lose games. Hes not really winning games either. Hes using the RPO quite well. Hes getting first down with his legs. However, will that ultimately cost him due to injury? Mobile QBs dont typically last long, and their game eventually gets sniffed out. Mitch is showing decent agility and mobility but his pocket game and long ball is weak at best. Accuracy is an issue. Hes not a bad QB by any means. He has potential to be really good if that overthrowing thing can be addressed.

RB: C
Howard hasn't showed much of anything really and that not entirely his fault. Cohen has been decent but the lack of commitment to the running game has me wondering if Nagy knows damn good and well that hes got average backs who have shown the right flashes at the right time. Part of this will be addressed in the Line section but they're getting hit behind the line too often. Cohen will not pick a hole between guards and tackles when it's big enough for us all to see, preferring to go around corners too often. They're not bad. Average.

WR/TE: C
You can cross White off the list at this point. Gabriel and Robinson have been decent but reacting to tall passes and mediocre accuracy make them appear less effective than they really are. Burton might be a legit star. A little too much reliance on Cohen to pad passing numbers. Not seeing much in the way of deep threats and speed so far. Average with a special B- for Burton.

Oline: C
Too many hits on RBs behind the line. Long is probably dead. Whitehair is learning but early this season too many slippery snaps. Leno has been good. Kush has been converting oxygen to carbon dioxide. Massie... whatever. Mitch is seeing a bit too much pressure for as young as he is imho so maybe this line isnt awful but especially without long to create post whistle penalties they've been average. Way too many pre snap flags.

Overall offense: C+

Special Teams:

K: F
Parkey sucks. Nuff said

PR/KR: B
Cohen getting most double duties here. There have been some real boners here but for the most part serviceable and not prone to disaster. No real complaints but theres really not much in the way of game changing returns so far. Not for a fan base used to seeing some real amazing stuff at returner in the not too distant past.

P: B
Whatever. Hes a punter. What do you want from me?

Coaching: B
Nagy makes some really questionable moves. For the first time in 30 years we dont really question clock management which is a goddamn blessing but wheres the commitment to getting the running game going? Why the blind faith in the gimmick plays? How many times do we expect that weird shovel pass to work? I'm understanding that this is a first year Coach but.... I guess so far so good. Fangio is fine. Just fine. Nagy will improve. His team seems to have bought into him. I dig that

Defense:
Line: B+
Hicks has been better than advertised. Like the rest of America I'm still waiting for Floyd to do something interesting. I might be waiting a while. Goldman and Bullard are not hurting anyone. The run defense has been pretty good.

Linebackers: A
Yeah here we go. Bears always have great linebackers. With Mack in the lineup these guys are fucking terrifying. With him out. Kwiatkowski and Trevathan are doing just fine. These guys are solid. With mack drawing doubles when healthy they're gonna be scary. I know i put Floyd as a lineman. I did that intentionally. Maybe I shouldn't have. Hes supposed to be a pass rusher in a 34. Shoot me.

Secondary: B
I kind of want to hate Fuller. It's hard to though. He was a primary reason why the pack beat the bears. Amukamara has had some really nice games. I really enjoyed watching Callahan last week. Amos is above average.

Overall: B
Bears are above average. Better than slightly above average. Not great. They'll beat bad teams. They'll beat slightly above average teams. I suppose we'll know more when we finally see some division play. Not much of that so far. And the AFC east is dog food beyond the patriots. Maybe Miami is a B+. Probably not. I see them beating Detroit twice. Maybe minny once. If mack isnt dead they could beat GB. Did anyone see a 10 or 12 win team 10 weeks ago? I doubt it. That's why I give them a B.

Other than taking a bad penalty after a play against the Jets last week, he’s been a solid at strong safety. He started the play that he wound up running the fumble back on today. Big fan of his, even if he did play at Alabama.

Yeah. That's not bad. You think the secondary deserves better than a B?

Eddie Jackson has been very good.

Secondary at a B is fair. With a consistent pass rush, they will look even better.

B still feels right. The corners get beat a touch too much and don’t wrap for tackles very well. Callahan is a solid A- at the nickle and the Amos/Jackson combo are a solid B+ point up.

Giving Parkey anything more than F is wrong.

Cohen has better receiving numbers. More receptions and yards.

Question:

Tried to post on this thread a couple of times but it seems to go into the bit bucket and the thread itself appears dormant while others are active. Is this a glitch in this site?

You are both right. Cohen is a special weapon over-all and is awesome on punt returns. When hopefully Nagy figures out how to use him in the over-all offense, the league will need to watch out. He really is a special talent.

I think the offense takes another step when Shaheen comes back.

I don't know if he's better. Having dual TE threats is rare and having a big target doesn't hurt. Plus it means Sims can be cut or murdered.

Overall Team Grade: B Team on the rise in the NFL. Play-offs a good possibility in a weak division. A year away from potential title.

Offense -- B- Need to get the running game untracked!!!!

QB -- B- (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is doing fine as a developing qb

RB -- B- Howard(C-) A hole would help!
Cohen (B) He's a weapon in the passing game

TE -- B+ Burton a very good tight end

WR -- B No weaknesses. Could use number one guy though

Line -- B Run Blocking(C-)
Pass Blocking(A-) Part of that has to do, though, with (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky's mobility

Play
Calling -- C+ Need to do better in the 2nd half

Defense -- A- WIth Mack (A)

DL -- B+ Run stopping (A)
Pass rush (B-)

LB -- A Top notch LB corps, With Mack, the best in football.

2ndary -- B+ Very under-rated. Jackson and Callahan playing excellent football. Fuller having pro bowl type season.

Play
Calling -- B+ not enough controlled blitzes to get at the qb.

Special Teams -- C

Punter -- C+ Takes too long to get the ball off.

Kicker -- C- Not worth the money

Punt return -- A Cohen is terrific return weapon

Kick return -- C- No speed for the job

Return blocking -- D Weak spot on the team

Return coverage -- C- Too many missed tackles and mistakes

Possibly in two TE sets? Might also help in getting the running game going better?

Grades are fair. I feel like the Bears can beat any team. They have been close and could have won every game this year. On the flip side, they no longer can lose to every team. They can beat the weaker NFL teams even when the Bears play sub par.

I think that the Rams will kick the crap out of them but no other team scares me.
